This is really turning into a soap opera.
What's next in the 'TAILGATE' fiasco......

Btw. My 700 has been grounded for well over a month, and still waiting on parts.
Now I've just upgraded the firmware on the 3gx to V3.0 on my 550, only to be told the powerdrain from the new firmware can cause brownouts etc, so I have to upgrade the ESC or have a 2s flight pack or my 550 can drop out of the sky.

Thanks Align.

At least my mcpx it still flight worthy.........sheesh

If you lightly sand it with fine grit sand paper it fits quite nicely. Wrap the sand paper around the gear and lightly roll the gear to take it down a tad. Fit perfectly and snug.

I'm not done getting all my electronic components. Tail is built with new gears. Holding out for the rest of the electronics for Christmas specials.

I just picked up my parts today but was planning on not upgrading the bevel gear precisely because they're always super tight and I don't want to destroy the bearings swapping it out.

Well, I am not so sure about that. But all of a sudden it started and i was able to gently tap it in. I used a brass dowel with a shoulder in center of bevel gear.

All new gears installed, front and back including the new cnc black main gear.

That new CNC main gear is awesome! The tail grip are perfect and everything is smooth as butter. I sure hope my vibs are gone now, bet they are. If it stops raining I will find out tomorrow.

i read that the new cnc main gear needs to be level with the pinion or you will get wear. So top of pinion needs to be lined up with bottom of main gear.

From Align:

The brand new high strength CNC M1 helical gear features increased thickness and improved overall strength, effectively improve its deformation resistance and wear characteristics from extreme power output, while noticeably increase helicopter’s power output efficiency and noise reduction.
Due to the increased thickness of the gear, please ensure the lower edge of main gear is lined up with lower edge of pinion gear. This will ensure smooth meshing, and avoid interference between pinion’s base and main gear which can lead to unusual wear.

Thanks for the heads up, I will check that in a few.

ddj74, got to thank you again, that was an important step I missed. Clearly would have worn out fast.

Why would the pinion being lower than the bottom edge of the gear cause rapid wear, can't for the life of see what difference it makes.
If Align say it must be so, then fine, just from an engineering point of view i can't see what the problem is, but would love to have it explained as to WHY from anyone that really knows the answer.

The top of the pinion (when viewed as fitted) is where the teeth start, and at first they are shallow, and get deeper as they move down the pinion untill they reach max depth for the rest of the pinion. With the original main gear it wasn't as thick, so didn't reach up far enough to come into contact with the start of the pinion teeth.

The new one is thicker, and now this is a possibility.

the new main gear is 11mm were as the stock white one is 10mm thats why you need to keep the main gear and pinion gear even at the bottom of the main and pinion and never let the pinion touch the bearing for the motor shaft

Hey all.

My pinion is resting on the motor shaft support bearing and engages with the new black maingear all ok. I found the difference in the height of the maingear reduces the gap seen between it and the tail drive maingear, so the new cnc gear just extends downwards the extra 1mm it seems.
From memory the top of my inverted pinion sits level with the bottom edge of the new maingear.
