Bob, regarding the helicopter you saw this past weekend with 4S - were you running a gov. mode - or something like 80% across the board for 2600HS and 100% for 3000HS,
Whats your opinion regarding flight time - If I can get the head speeds you mentioned and at least 6 minutes of flight time - then I am sold on 4S and the Hyperion.
Guess its too early to tell if we have chosen a decent setup that will be suitable for a while.
The idea is to have similar power to weight ratio of a 90 nitro, 6 minutes of strong 3D and not burn up the batteries. This is the same type of criteria that Larson is going for the the MA50 electric.

Yes that is the case in my opinion. I THINK I have a "performance" setup but I just cant say for sure right now.

If you building one and have not bought the power setup yet you might want to wait to see what people find (and I find) is a kick butt setup. If you cant wait then right now the 4S Hacker or Hyperion seems to be the choice right now based on the "math", Jeff Green's tests, and Hirobo pilots tests...

Thats all I know right now UNTIL I can actually fly it AND have one of my locals "hot" pilots fly it since I cant fly worth a darn anyway

Hello,

the Lepton seems to be near the class of the Acrobat SE (Stefan Plöchinger/Germany). The Lepton is a tad heavier, but i think one can get an impression of the power/runtime for 4s and 5s configs from this videos: http://www.eheli-tuning.de/videos.html

The Acrobat is bigger and designed better IMHO.

After the impressive flights on my 4S setup at 2800 rpm headspeed. I am going to try a 5S setup.
Hyperion 3025-12 motor with the 24 tooth pinion
5S1P 3700 Evo packs
Jazz 55-10-32 so I can dial down the throttle % if needed. (this esc does very well at low % levels)

I think this will be a pretty hot setup.

Well the 5S 3700 EVO packs fit like a glove.

Battery sits almost completely inside the frames now and balances perfect right where it sits.

Default 5S flight data

We have made some records on 5S.

The used config was the follow:

Hacker A30-10XL ( 19T, 1:4,94 )
Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32
Medusa 6V/2A BEC
Polyquest 5S/3700
3*Multiplex Polo 4 Digi
GY401/9650

Pitch range: +-10,5deg
RPM: 2700

We fly soft 3D. The Lepton was extremly powerfull and precise. The tail was really weak, but I will replace the tail blades. The overall performance is amaizing. The landing gear and fins are wery poor also.
So I will make new ones to replace them.

And finally here is the DPR graph:

Think I may have a 5S motor here. Hope to test it out tomorrow on stock gearing.

http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=5973

Lot of the airplane guys around here running these motors have nothing but good stuff to say about them. Also Atlantahobby is a first rate store.
Big e- plane shop but the owner is super nice and very helpful( wish all stores were like this).

I tested this motor today on 5S.

http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=5973

Outside temps were 96F and high humidity. Rain cut the testing short today.

Using the 24 tooth pinion I got:

85% throttle @ 2650 rpm
95% throttle @2800 rpm
100% throttle @ 2880 rpm

Performance was decent but not as good as the 4S setups. Temps were 163f after a few 3-4 minute flights. I had the align esc set for mid timing and mild throttle response.

I am going to bump up the timing and throttle response to see if I get a performance increase and see what the tepms will be.

At this point I would say this would be a good choice for someone who already has 5S packs looking for mild 3d performance (maybe better once I change the timimg).

Modbogger, yes on low KV motors set the Align ESC for high timing. I did this and it dropped the temps a little on my Hyperion. I tried all the throttle response settings and to tell ya the truth I could not notice any difference but I run high anyway.

The 19T pinonion was premade by a small machinery and finalized by me.
This is made of good quality brass and not aluminium.
It works perfektly in our Leptons.

How about if you get a few of the 19 t pinions made and I am more than positive you will sell a good amount of them just here on helifreak.
Heck I will take one right now if you have any available.

I received my 19 T pinion today and I am able to run 85% on governer mode and the heli dosen't sound like it is going to fall apart. My tach died so I don't know exactly what the rpm's are but it sounds like I am in the 3000 range. I had a few flights and I was able to touch the motor without burning my finger. I am running the Evo 20 5S 3700 with the Hacker A30-8XL with the CC HV 45 and this is ballistic. This is the right pinion for this combo as far as I can tell(only 2 flights) and I am loving it.   :glasses2:
Thanks Istvan.
