It might be fun to try the 120SR's FB blades on the 120S just to see how it reacts.

You might be in for a big surprise since the AS3X offers like zero cyclic gain adjustability or any other tuning parameters on the 120S.

The 120s has safe technology, not AS3X.

Engineered With SAFE™ Technology

The BladeŪ 120 S features exclusive SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) technology, a revolutionary electronic flight envelope protection system that makes it easy for anyone to fly helicopters with confidence by providing flight mode versatility and Panic Recovery mode that automatically returns the 120 S to a level attitude.

It's still AS3X (Artificial Stabilization - 3 aXis) underneath. That's Spektrum's proprietary basic FBL system. SAFE is an add-on/overlay type feature. The AR636H combo FBL/RX unit in the 200SRX and 230S helis specifically says it's an AS3X system and it has the same SAFE features, as well. The real point, anyway, was the fact that the 120S has zero to little tuneability of the FBL system at all.

Then HH has incorrectly named this heli. Should be 120SX. Every model that HH has ever come out with had a 'X' at the end of the model name. Eg. MQX. MSR-X, 130X, 200SRX, 180QX HD, etc.

So, about that AS3X/SAFE 230S I immediately mentioned above... Then there's the Nano CPS.

X indicates a FBL unit without SAFE, S indicates FBL with SAFE. The 200SRX is the exception to the rule (and predates the sane SAFE branding).

Nano CP S, 120 S and 230 S all have AS3X and SAFE.

AS3X is HH's proprietary stabilization system (it's not just an FBL system). SAFE is their 6 axis system that can run on top of both AS3X or BeastX. SAFE builds on a 3-Axis system, but not necessarily on AS3X, as the AR7210BX shows (It can be either BeastX or BeastX+SAFE for an extra cost)

Not always. The 270CFX has what Spektrum calls "SAFE" (it isn't really - see post below). And, the 200SRX has always been advertised from the beginning as a SAFE equipped heli.

Not in the case of BeastX. That's BeastX's own system they developed for the new Microbeast Plus that was incorporated later into the Spektrum AR7210BX unit, which replaced the AR7200BX. Spektrum just calls it "SAFE", probably for consistency with their line, but it isn't their system. Spektrum has always used the BeastX technology (says it right on the side of the units) and it has never been their in-house system. All they did was cram it into a different box with a 7ch DSMX RX.

Hi,
New to the forum and to helis. Anyone have an SPM file for the 120S for a DX6? I am not sure I understand the settings in the 120S manual. It has the model type as airplane and F-Mode with Switch 1 and Switch 2. When I try and program a new airplane and go to F-Mode it only shows one switch.

Thanks,

Kevin

You should be able to download an SPM from Spektrum/HH

A little confusion here on Flight Mode.

The 120S has flight mode built-in, this is actually your SAFE settings and selects beginner, intermediate & expert modes for SAFE. This is assigned to Switch B (aka Switch 1), Switch 2 is not used.

The Flight Mode at the TX is used to select your channel rates & Expo. This is assigned to switch F.

Be sure you are using the DX6, DX7, DX9, DX18 settings, not the DX6i

OK. Thanks. There is nothing on the Spektrum website yet for the 120S.

Default Blade 120S SPM file

File with voice callouts for flight mode, rates and throttle cut. Created on my DX9 and works fine.

Default 120S Servo noise

I'm another newbie with a 120S and new to these forums. Have already flown it a few times and it seems to work well. But I have a question.

Is it normal for this model that the servos buzz/hum/sing when the battery is plugged in, but it is just sitting there on the ground with throttle at zero ?

Details - I have a Dx6 transmitter, no problem with set up. On 120S, I plug in battery, red led is on (all is quiet), 4-5 seconds later the blue led comes on and the servos start to chatter. Seems to operate / fly OK, but I am concerned that something is wrong and the unit will fail quickly.

This is my first heli and I just don't know what is normal. Thanks.

My MSR-X was the same way. Lots of buzzing.

That's not it. Mine does it in every flight mode and it's normal. It's the inherent nature of digital servos trying to always center, which has nothing to do with self-leveling. If that were true, it wouldn't do it in intermediate or 3D mode.
