Things starting to get better! I just mounted a servo and a homemade shutter for the camera! The difference was big, and good!

Default traveling AP

My brother and friends are travelling in Turkey with a Hexakopter. It fits into a 450 travel case. I lent them my 5.8Ghz 1 watt video TX for some of the very high shots they plan to get. They sent these photos to tease me!
I am keen to see how well the Panasonic TM700 works on the Hexa, as they didn't have time to test it out before going.

The high shot! This is taken from a hexakopter, with a firmware hacked canon camera. I don't think it has a wide angle lens. ( I will find out the model number later )
The location is near the Iranian border, in Turkey. The old photo I think was taken by a NATO plane in the late 1950's with a stereo camera, looking for military things of interest.
The boat shape is 515 feet long, or 157m, so that makes the shot about 500m wide by 650m tall, but it looks like they added two images together for this, to try to match the old photo.

How high I asked them?....the reply:
...maybe even up to a kilometer. The copter was out of sight, and we could only see it with a pair of binoculars. The video feed using your transmitter was still working, yet the radio control transmission dropped out, and the helicopter did an unplanned emergency decent. The camera was (until the copter landed heavily) a Canon Powershot A2000IS.

More news from the travellers...

A quick update from Nuweiba - We had an unexpected splashdown, but the recovery operation was succesful, so with the replacement of components that got electrolyzed, we hope the machine is airworthy once again. They are amazingly robust things these hexacopters, the ideal choice. Based on the inbuilt GPS logging the height data, we got to over 500m altitude. Unfortunately, your 1W transmitter may not be as useful as it once was. It's now a paperweight with an interesting story, having spent the night 12m down in the Gulf of Aqaba. But as a result, we all had a nice dive in the Red Sea after hiring scuba gear. To be continued...

I tried to attach the GPS data that works with google earth, but helifreak doesn't like it

Default Hexacopter flying again

I wasn't expecting this, but more pictures...

Andrew has been using a Canon A2000iS, and lately a G11 (much better) which he bought in Eilat. We didn't have an underwater camera (at least not an intentional one), the dive pictures were taken by the dive shop man who accompanied us diving. It was interesting to see the effect of the corrosion on the electronics. Most of the electronics were damaged by electrolysis, with the solder eaten away on one side of each pair of +ve and -ve connections, for example capacitors. Three of the motors we're quite stiff (with the bearings seizing up) but Andrew had the needed spare motors and electronics so it is flying again.

Here's a photo taken of one of the famous shapes at Gomorrah, one from the air and one at ground level.

On their way home now, this is a picture from the last day. They tell me they have lots of video and pictures to look at.
Having GPS to hold the copter on a vertical line makes taking pictures like this so much easier.

Default Boat Pics

Hey,
wanted some photos of our boat on the water, so I made up some floats & camera mount for a 10mp Canon A480, hacked with CDHK.
Take off, shoot & land on the river here in Perth.
Thanks
Justin
