Default trex 500 esc question talon 90

So I have a trex 500 esp, scorpion 3026-1400kv motor 14t and talon 90 esc.
My question is: what are the best settings in the software? I am only learning to hover at this point. I think i have the settings I need but pwm is confusing me, and current limit, and do I need governor mode yet?

Leave all the timing settings to stock, the scorpion product listing for this page doesn't give those details like the newer ones for some reason.

You can enable governor mode and enter your pinion, main gear and motor kv then make sure to select 10 pole option for the motor and pick your desired head speed for 3 settings. It will fly very smooth with a governor.

Make sure for current protection you have soft cut which is also factory. Not much needs to be adjusted in stock software to get it flying. You can tweak it to your liking later on if you don't like something.

Last but not least calibrate your throttle end points before flying.

Thank you. Are there some head speeds you recommend for someone just learning to hover?

Since you have a esp you will be running much less than me. The 500 tends to get a funky shake at too low of head speeds so you want a balance I would say. Try like 2,300-2,400-2,500 rpms and see how each one feels. Not sure it will be happy much under 2,300. What tx do you have?

Ok, so you only get 2 gov selections at once but a quick adjustment on the tx will let you try all 3 preselected rpm's in the castle.

The Scorpion 1400kv version is more for 3D. Nice motor, but IMHO for learning the 1600kv one will be more suitable.

What makes the 1600 KV more suitable? I would think that either motor would work just fine for learning on.

The 1600kv motor will perform with 12t and 13t pinions giving hi and low rpm's. Whilst the 1400 one requires bigger pinion to 'work'.

So you can get longer flight times because you don't need to run higher rpm... got it. Thanks!
