Default Raptor 60 or 90 clutch

I've been in the process of helping a friend build and set up his R-90 and I was trying to look up clutch setups for it. So far, all I am seeing is parts labeled as R-60 and I was wondering if they were universal. Some say 'heavy duty' but there's nothing to say they will go on a 70-90 motor. I'm used to working on 30's and 50's, so the bigger ones are a bit out of my league at this point, but hopefully by spring we can have this puppy maidened. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hahaha! Yeah I bet man. I've been up to Show low a few times in the summer. Even then....brrrr!!! To us around here, it feels cold enough to freeze the balls off a pool-table, so not good, but better than up there I assume. I think it would be about flip-flops and Hawaiian shirt weather if you were here.

So there is a difference in 60 to 90 size clutches then correct? I definitely don't want to get the wrong one, but I looked all over Heliproz (apparently not well enough that is) and could only find R60. Thanks for the link. Hopefully that'll be next on the list and we can get this baby going soon.

definately more torque with a 90 so for me I think I would shy away from these components that state 60 size.

Yeah snowing like hell right now supposed to get a foot or more and temps will be a high of 26 today. Friday high of 20, fri night low of 8 with -8 wind chill. Very big and cold storm. Luckily we have an old gym where our indoor club can fly. We pylon race SR120's.

Good idea. Thanks for the help!

We're not so lucky with the indoor part, but the weather is usually never down below 40~ish. By midday it's up in the 50's & 60's. The wind is the big killer for flying IMHO. Hot or cold, if it's indy outside, forget about it.

I was poking around and now I see why you may be asking if a 60 clutch would work on a 90

http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=804075

MVPV0144 Raptor 60 HD Clutch

Item Number: 804075
Unit Price: $8.00

Wonder what the differance is between the one I posted above?

PV0322 HD Raptor 90 3D Clutch

Item Number: 133700

wouldnt be nice to run the eight dollar one?

I run those $8 clutches in my 60. They aren't made by Thunder Tiger though, made by Mavrikk. I would definitely use the one labeled for the 90 though. I'm not sure if they are different sizes or not.

Well, I guess it would be an $8 gamble and hope you don't botch the auto at the end of it right? lmao From everything I've ever bought labeled Mavrikk, it's been some damn good stuff. I don't necessarily think that it would be worth the risk of mashing up a newly built R-90SE, but sometimes you gotta just try and see for yourself. I've found a lot of things hold up waaaaaaay better than the peanut gallery claims, so we'll see what we end up doing with it. Like I said, at worst it will become some pretty good aut practice right?

R60 and R90 clutch bells are different as well. The first Raptor 90s were 60 conversions and it was discovered early on that the R60 clutch was insufficient for a 90.

Well, it's got a 90 size bell in it already. We got the airframe sans clutch and fan, so kinda got jipped. I'll definitely post up any findings. i t may be a little while before we can get it finished, but the TT forums aren't super busy and I'm sure you guys will spot the post/thread if I do end up trying it out.

Hi guys.
The 60 clutch is a lot smaller than the 90. I converted my60 to a 90 last summer. Now it's a gasser.

Was it worth the switch? I've been somewhat interested in gassers of late. I don't have any immediate plans to go for one at present, but I'm always interested in learning of things before taking the plunge!

I love the gasser. But they are not for everyone. They are good sport flyers. Not really good at hard 3D. But the cheep fuel cost and long flight time make it a cool option.

I've seen a couple videos of them. They seem to get around rather well for their size. Heck, if they have more power than a Raptor 30 on nitro by comparison, that would be 3D capable enough for me. I can beat the brakes off an R30!
