On E helis, I run straight line curves... no fun.

That would be very helpful. This will be my first nitro and probably many others first nitro.

On top of the parts list, what do I need as far as field equipment and extras such as fuel line/tanks - pretty much all the stuff that I never had to worry about with electric?

I just bought a starter, engine, muffler, hand-crank pump, Mavrikk header tank, perfect regulator.... Obviously need a few more items.

Don't know if I am on track with all these components or not so far.

Engine: OS .37
Pipe: Hatori SAB-6RS-3D
Cyclic Servos: Any mini sized servos (Align/Savox/JR/MKS)
Tail: Again, any mini sized servo, I went with the MKS 8910A+... speed monster servo
Throttle: Any decent mini sized servo (I went with Align DS510).

Blades: 425mm or so and 72mm tails... same as an Align Trex 500.

Ok, now you need to figure out the FBL controller. I went with vBar because that's what I know and love. It has built-in nitro governor and works very well. Pick whatever FBL controller you are comfortable with.

RPM Sensor: Looks like the only one that will work is the Align magnet sensor. Backplate sensors are too big for this little engine.

Powering electronics: Two schools of thought here... go with a regulator and a 2S pack, or go with a LiFe pack unregulated. I'm going with the LiFe pack. Seems simple enough and shaves off weight.

Starting engine: You will need a good starter. I have the yellow Align starter. Has served me well on my 700N. You will also need to light up the glow plug. Some are going with the PushGlo. I have a spare SwitchGlo, so that's what I'm using.

Fueling: Hand crank works fine, but they break often. I've had good luck with the yellow Sullivan pump and a Dubro fueling valve. Drill a 1/2" hole in a cap for a fuel gallon and install the Dubro valve on it and you can then close the lid and never open it again until the gallon is used up. Attach your lines to the valve and use a hand crank or an electric pump to do the fueling. Easy as pie.

Field box: Have a glow plug wrench, extra towels, a spray bottle with alcohol for cleanup, extra OS #8 glow plugs, some fuel tubing for any repairs, and extra fuel tubing shutoff clamps since I seem to lose them all the time! If you go with an electric fuel pump, have an extra battery and a backup hand crank in case the electric one dies.

That's all I can think of right now!

Anybody have any experience with the Spektrum H5010 servos? I think they're the Spektrum equivelant to the Align DS510/Savox 1250 servos. I've got a line on them at a really good price (under $50 a piece), but I know nothing about them, good or bad.

Used them on a 500ESP. Good servo. If the price is good, I would run em. Your comparison to the align 510m is a good one, similar quality, similar stats.

Wink

The spektrum h5010 servos are made by savox also, like the align servos. All three are the same.

Cheers,

I'm going with regular DS510s. They have plastic gears and are easy to change out. In all the crashes I had with my 500ESP, I had to change them out a few times. I "upgraded" to the DS510M thinking metal gears were better and after my first crash with them I ended up having to replace two servos. The metal gears don't give and the impact force has to go somewhere else... so there goes the little motor in there or whatever else the gears are connected to.

I'd rather just change out the plastic gears. They are cheap ($6) and easy to change out.

I'm thinking about putting an OS32 in one of these. After seeing what they can do with the 37. I am wandering how they would do with a 32. The only tricks I can do flying is a few rolls, loops, and flips. With the smaller engine the flight times would be even longer, lowering the cost per minute flying. Does any of you think this would fly anywhere close to a fifty size heli with an OS50 in it. It surely would have more get then my Hawk pro with a 32?

Saw this bird in person over the weekend at the SRC event and it's incredible. JC mentioned he was at 15 flights already trying to burn a whole gallon of fuel and he still had some left in his first gallon.
