Today I finished my first gallon of nitro in the NX4.

I'm slowly getting it dialed in. I have had one crash already. I was able to hit throttle hold and get it level before it hit the ground. The only damage was one skid tube! I bent it back and flew the rest of the day.

Maidened mine today. Went awesome except my tail gain was too high. When i went into idle up i got a bad tail wag. Then about ahalf tank through i went into idle up and it died. I auto it down and checked it and my muffler bolt was almost all the way out, that was probably the culprit.

I called off work tomorrow to go fly it. lol

I went to helis over Delaware and put almost 3/4 of a gallon through her. I'm still running and learning collective management. This is my first nitro. I like it but it's a different sensation than the powerful electrics. Also 8.5 minutes is different!

I agree with you on the collective management. Still playing with the gov settings to try and get the most out of it.

8.5min!!! Im lucky to get 6 min out of a tank.

Scott, part of the time depends on your altitude.

Yeah 8.5 on 30% rage. I could probably lean it out a bit more but I'm enjoying flying it as is. Although after about 10 flights in a row on the nx4 I picked up my x5 and it felt scary powerful. Lol

Flew my NX4 today.

I was experimenting with Rail 425mm blades. They are really light compared to the Spin 435's.
I was getting some really bad shakes I thought the main rotor gain was too high with the new blades. I landed and found that one of the boom struts screws was missing. It had vibrated loose during my test flights. I also have a strange sound coming from the engine. I'm not sure if the baffle in the pipe has come loose or what. I have a new pipe so I'll swap it out and see.
I decided to shelve the NX4 for the rest of the day and focus on flying the X5 instead.

Strange noises could be the motor bearings

I'm starting to think the same thing. I just checked a gallon ago and they were fine. Hmmm.

Does it seem like it's losing power at all?

Not at all. I think it may have more than the last time it was out.

I am fixing and going over everything tonight so I will see in the morning if it any different. I also reduced the gov gain last time to make sure it wasn't hunting. It was still there though.

I fixed everything up on my NX4. I tried a new pipe and switched back to the SpinBlades. I still have the bad vibration sound.

As the engine was running I felt around the airframe to so if I could detect where it was coming from. I'm now 90% sure its the engine bearings. I have a few spare motors so I'm going to swap in a fresh one and work on this one.

I miss flying this thing. It's so much fun.

I am getting ready to jump on board with you guys to see what this little nitro is all about. My OS 37 was waiting for me when I got home, hopefully I will have the kit next week. This will be my second Nitro powered Heli, I have had my faithful Trex 600N since 2008. It recently got a complete make over, fueling my urge for more Nitro.

You will love this little heli. It gets the most flight time of my fleet.

I finally got around to tearing apart the engine on my NX4. Turns out that the culprit of my frustration was the front bearing. When I took the motor apart I knew right away the bearing was knotchy. I'm swapping in a fresh motor and will rebuild this one when I get some parts in.

Thanks!

It doesn't always look that clean. It's hard to stay organized when you get started on repairing a heli. Crap seems to end up all over the bench.
The back peg board is nice for keeping my spares inventory organized. It makes it easy to see what I'm getting low on.
