Default Fine-tuning paddle weights - just cut in half?

Hi,

I am still trying to find the right feel and balance on my Protos.

For my taste, the stock paddle weights feel too heavy. I am going to just cut them in half, and see how that feels. The other halves I am going to grind down to a fourth, that will leave me with the options of three quarter weight, half weight, and one fourth weight.

Any comments or ideas?

Thanks,
Frank

Half is pretty good. Assuming you've tried it with no weights... which is easier still.

Any cyclic expo with half weights?

I run no expo with full weights right now.

It's up to you... you won't crash trying it, and if you think you will, try the expo.

Weights and expo are two easy to fiddle parameters you can play to find your personal sweet spot.

I found that with too little weight I wouldn't enjoy forward flight, or be able to groove highly banked turns, so I put some back and found I liked it fine.

I run a little expo, mainly to try to keep my interactions down a bit when flipping and rolling...

Hi,

I just cut them in half. Now each weight is 2.5 cm long and weighs 1 g.

Will report back from my upcoming weekend test.

Thanks,
Frank

I don't know the difference about the Protos weights vs the Gorilla T-Rex 450 paddle weights, but I had some weights of my old 450 here, and I've cut to 1/4 length, and they just feel fine with no expo.

If you go for 3D only, removing the complete weight is perfect. If fast forward is your passion, use the weights.
If you like both worlds, try to cut the weights - OR GO FBL!!!

Hi,

You hit the nail on the head: I am between worlds.

Thanks,
Frank

I think they're the same product.

Hi,

Test-flew the half paddle weights today.

At 6 deg cyclic and no expo, it felt better than with full weights. The difference it not huge, but noticeable.

Best,
Frank

You now got to try it with 1/4 of the weights in each paddle...

It worked for me!

I think you are right. I will test half a little bit more, but might go to fourth.

Thanks for your tip,
Frank

Frank - if you can afford anyhow the money: Go for V-Stabi or Mini-V-Stabi! This will be PERFECT for your purposes... Neverever, I would switch back to paddles on my Protos!
Mini-V-Stabi works with the Spektrum Satelites only, so you can sell your RX. Your Spartan will also bring you some money...
Your Protos will be:
1. Lighter
2. Faster on cyclics
3. Extremely stable in fast forward and hovering
4. More powerfull than before
4. Point 2-4 even with 200RPM less on the head - which saves flightime and is cosy to your LiPos
5. Cheaper to repair after a crash
6. The best heli, you'll ever have flown!!
Believe me!
