Default My HC3sX and DX8 setup

I have numerous posts all over different threads regarding DX8 setup and it's hard for new people to get all info in one place; so in this thread I'll try to consolidate the information.

During my research, I found this helpful site:
http://www.myyosemite.com/logo-500se...-dx8-build-log

Download Danny's pdf file from the top of that page.
I've found out that just follow HC3sX new wizard and check Danny's instructions along the steps are enough for most people to setup a new HC3sX installation.

On my DX8, I physically switched Gear and Trainer switches.
Check post #24 here on how to open up your DX8:
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...=254430&page=3
You only need to follow the first few steps to open it, then swap the switches, no wires cutting or soldering needed.
TIP: if you don't have a spanner type screwdriver, one easy way to open the switches: use a small flat screwdriver to hold the screw from outside, then use the other hand, hold and twist the switch from inside to loosen the screw. After that, it should be real easy to turn the screw.

Attached is my DX8 settings, with Trainer button as Captain Rescue and Rudder switch controlling flight modes.

I'm so glad this got sticky'd. Have a dx8 and hc3-sx on the way.

Great work FastRunner, thanks for doing all the figuring out and sharing it.

U R all welcome!

Hmmm... Not sure how to accept that?!

Only kidding folks. I don't lose any sleep over labels, just happy to help if/when I have anything of value to contribute.

Great job in providing this info, FastRunner!!

I just finally have my inital setup in the HC3sX and will maiden when the wind stops, doesn't look like today. I have a problem after setting up the HC unit I went back and setup the CC75A throttle endpoints and they are different than before and now the throttle is still active in TH. Do I just need to redo the throttle setup?

Blades don't change pitch either in TH.

I found the solution, just a noob mistake. I had to go to the F-MODE setup and set Hold to Hold. LOL makes sense. I'll have to remember that one.

From what I understand you need at least 20% on both the head and tail gains or the light stays red.
Recommendation (EDIT; for initial flight) is that the gains be set at 50% in you tx which you can control via your trim tabs in your setup.

Ok, I now have 50% in Gov Menu - Pos 0
Amber light is on !

When I'm in the gyro menu, and moving the L trim button , should I be seeing the numbers change on the Dx8 screen ?

Same goes for the Gov menu, but using the R trim button.

Tail gyro gain can be tuned using L Trim button and Gyro menu

Governor gain can be tuned using Rudder switch + R Trim button + Gov menu

Thank You

Better choice of screens is in the model screen click your roller and roll to the very bottom and select the monitor screen. Look at the monitor and push your L-trim and see which one moves that should be your tail gain. The R-trim should be controlling your head gain.
Don't have my tx handy as I'm at work. When flying have the tx screen on this view that way you can see what your doing.

In the monitor screen, L or R trim buttons don't change anything, sure there's something I'm missing.

Thanks

I received my setup from taosgraveyard, the tail gain is on the knob and the head is on the R-trim.

It would be easy to switch the knob to L-trim (setting couldn't be bumped off as easily as the knob) and I've been considering doing it, I just have other fish to fry right now.

I can send the set up to you this evening. I'm still new back to RC after 30+ year absence, so the computer tx and the HC programming is new and a big learning curve. I have mine set up and if functions just fine, I just maidened mine Sunday afternoon and had some tail bearing issues which I solved and flew it again last evening for about 5 minutes and still trying to get the tail gain right, I put in fastrunner's initial settings last night as some of my gains were making it too quick.
I can't fly again until probably Saturday, its suppose to snow 3-6" tomorrow and tomorrow night and then be windy the next two days.

I'll post the settings that I used.

Yeah, I'm not sure why the L or R trim buttons are not working.

On the power on screen , when pressing either , LT displays on the top left, and RT on the top left.

click the roller and then use the roller to scroll down to the monitor screen and click it then see if the Ger and the Gov channels are moving when your clicking the R-trim or the L-trim tabs.
Not on the initial model (power on) screen.

I just created a new model with these settings , the L and R trim buttons are working correctly.

I'll complete the setup and rebind, and see what happens.

Figured it out.
In System Setup > Trim Setup
I had all of the following as seen in the picture set to 0, when changing it back to the default of 5, the buttons now work. I saw an online video of the dx8 setup for heli, and they set them all to 0, which is why I did.
Should I just leave them all at 5 ?
Thanks Again
