ok so heres the X5 canopy on my cf 550. I have to say it looks pretty good on there! The size is good, not too big not too small, it takes up roughly the same volume as the stock canopy, just in a different shape; taller instead of longer. the top of the canopy allows for venting on the motor, which is something that many, including myself were already doing to our stock canopies to keep the motor cooler. I can fit my 6s 3300 under there easier than with the stock one as there is more room because of the shape. the front portion of the battery touches the canopy as it is now, but the mounting adjustments below may fix that. On the plastic frame, it looks like it will still be a tight fit at the front of the battery when trying a 6s up on top, 3x3 up and down packs may fit better on this frame. heres the catch tho, the bottom..... The bottom of the canopy is an open design which, on the 425/550 is where the second mount point is typically located. It looks like you may be able to carefully mimic the 2 stage canopy post setup of the X5 using the X5 canopy posts, and dremeling a couple holes on the frames close to the front servo mounting locations. If you did this then the bottom being open would be irrelevant. Actually having the bottom open can help cool the esc if you have it under there like I do, or in the case of the plastic fantastic, running all 6 cells under-slung would be much easier as the opening would allow for more battery flexibility.

Hi
I have the Gaui 425 and wasn't happy with the canopy so when I saw a secondhand X5 canopy on ebay I grabbed it for my 425.

It looks great if not just a tad too big. It also can move around a bit and I wouldn't want to go inverted with it as just may move up towards the blades too much. But easily fixed with some sort of mod to secure it better.

Regards,

Phil.
