Default Hitec 5245 Metal Gears Stripped

Hi,

I crashed a very little crash with my FBL 500, after investigating i found that all three Metal gears are stripped also i found a crack in two cases!!!

How come that they can strip easily like this?? can i use the cracked cases normally (They seems to be fine but you will see a thin line from the left top)??

If i bought a new cases.. it will come with the "Hitec Label 5245MG" or i must remove them from the old ones??if yes, How??

Thanks,

Are you using metal servo arms or plastic? If metal arms, that could be why the gears stripped and case cracked.
Not sure about the label on a replacement case. Personally I wouldn't use one that had a crack in it.

Thanks,
3 sets of stripped metal gears and 2 cracked servo cases really
doesn't sound like "a very little crash". The forces were worse than it looked like!

There is one plastic gear - the sacrificial gear. Have to open it up to make sure.
Mebbe the metal gears are not stripped.

Alot of people have stopped using the metal arms just for this reason. They dont give. And since FBL is more direct link, the trauma force is significant.
Replace the cracked cases.

So your advise is to replace the blue metal arms with plastic ones??

I would. After all, you should have them already.
I'd go a step further. I'd use the adjustable plastic arm that comes
with each hitec servo. After you get the arm adjusted in length
and all tightened down, I'd CA both halves of the arm together permanently.
Not while they're physically on the servo...mark them...take them off
and then glue both halves together.

Haven't we all seen the breakable plastic servo arms that are designed
to give in a crash? Is there much difference between those servo arms
and the hitec adjustable 2piece arms? Looks to me like the hitec arms
would provide a perfectly good breaking point same as the others.

And you need to prove conclusively if it was just the sacrificial plastic gear
that broke, or if you do in fact have stripped metal gears. I suspect the former.
Either way, you'll be buying the same gearset regardless of which gear is broke.
However, knowing what really broke is invaluable in future troubleshooting.

And these hitec servos can be programmed with a set point where the servo
shuts down and freewheels when undue stress is received. So you may want
to consider getting the hitec servo programmer.

Thanks,
I would count on them being exactly like what is pictured on the Hitec website.
Or any website that shows an accurate picture of the replacement cases.

You are going to either throw away the servos, or buy new cases.
So what you get is what you get.
If you're actually concerned about the servo case label then you can do a
peel-n-stick thing and maybe you'll be able to reuse the labels. I wouldn't worry
about it because it's 100% immaterial.

Here is a link to the plastic sacrificial gear.
It is available as a seperate part - no need to buy the whole gearset
if that's all it is.

I love those adjustable arms...getting the geometry really well set is a big thing for me. I like 'em all straight in line so my travel is as accurate as I can get.. +1 for the adjustable arms.

flerpie, thanks for your help...

I already bought the main gears set with all gears, regarding the stripped grears i found that the first metal gear (big one) has stripped one tooth (In two servos) and i replaced them

BTW i didn't found any plastic gears inside!!!

What is the hitec servo programmer used for?? centering the servo?

I didn't understand what you mean by the adjustable arm, sorry

Here's a link to the servo programmer. The documentation explains
what things can be programmed.

http://hitecrcd.co.kr/tester/hpp_21.htm

Adjustable arms...
The previously posted link above. They cost 29 cents per set of arms.
Typing out an explanation is too much when 29 cents puts one in front of you.

I agree. I only do perfect geometry. I do not have my servo arms
canted in or out at any angle whatsoever, under the sun.
Irregardless of any Finless video where he explains why imperfect
geometry is a desirable thing. I don't buy it. Finless contradicts himself
when he extolls the virtues of good 90 degree geometry in one build
video then goes on to say that less than perfect geometry is a good thing
in a different video. Yes, a geometry argument can be made for less than
90 alignments...and it makes sense. But it's not for me.

Gear set..... http://www.helidirect.com/hitec-serv...5mg-p-6026.hdx

Case is the same for the 5245 as the 205... case set number 56342 here.... http://www.helidirect.com/hitec-5634...mg-p-10548.hdx

I fly these servos on two 500's and have a bunch of these in my spares. But I've never stripped a gear set or cracked a case yet in 4 years. Probably because I'm FB'd. FBL tends to tear up servos easier.

Thank you Blayd I will get some from there good price too. Mine is flybarred too but I used the blue metal horns for the bling and they transfer a lot of force in a crash.... I've just ordered parts to convert mine to FBL so will be going back to the plastic horns when I do as these DFC heads really play hell on servos for sure.

Thx,

Yeah, those blue horns can do some damage. I like them too.. they are longer then my plastic ones from Hitec, but they will wreck some stuff if you take a good hit.

Still good servos though. Good luck on the FBL conversion. I will have to eventually as well. Havent decided if I'm gonna convert, or just sell them off....
