10s 600se motor and pinion question
With my current setup I get great flight times, but I don't have that extra pop that I want every once and a while. I know the 600se won't bang around like the average 700 class heli. But I'm sure there is more power that I'm missing out on because of my setup. In Kyle's San Diego funfly vid he uses the same setup I have, except he is using a 14t pinion and I'm using a 13t on mine. So my question is should I go up one size on the pinion? or go with another motor that would be better suited for my 10s 600se.

There's nothing really to say on the matter that you haven't already said in your OP though, is there BTB? You want your 600se to fly like Kyle's 600se but your setup isn't the same as Kyle's.

BTB, depends on how much pop you really want. Don't know about going up much
bigger in pinions, may start being a heat/amp draw issue. I run a 500kv w 11t on 4500 5s's, and 693s. It has some pretty good 'pop' for me.Limited tic/tocs, some nice rainbows about as hard as I bang it though. Otherwise just about any and all your normal aeros/sport big air stuff. You may go up to a bit more kv motor w. same pinion and see how it does. |

Thanks for your feedback bikneli.

If you have access to some small 6s packs, you might try that first, if that is an
option for you. You might or might not have to drop the pinion by a tooth. Check Mr Mels headspeed calc. above. Also could shoot Dave (Dahl) a PM and ask him about Kyle's 14t setup; he will give you good straight info. |

Nope no 6s packs, I got rid of them all when I sold my trex. 500. I will on Dave tomorrw to se what he thinks.

What head speed is the governor set at? If you're running a 13t on the same motor he's running a 14t on then that's one thing to look at. The calculator says 1822 is the target for a 13t with that kv on 10s, you said good flight time, how much are you getting? And honestly I would look at the batteries, 35c might be a little low if you're looking for that "pop" power even though they are going to be good for overall performance they just won't have the raw power of a higher c pack.
Edit: just saw the max headspeed is 1800 for that size blade. Maybe the motor isn't ideal for 10s but should still work, so would think the batteries but you could try playing with the collective precomp in the governor settings to get a little more power added in advance of a hard collective move. |

Might also want to experiment with the pitch-pump setting in V-Bar. IIRC, that should give you a boost in collective "pop".

Sorry I took so long to respond, it was too hectic to post at work today. Sgrim80 I have the exact numbers written down at home. For normal I'm running around 1650, S1 1700, and S2 is set at something like 1850. If I fly as hard as I get around six mins in stunt 1, with stunt 2 I get 5 mins. Thanks 3D Dave, I have never thought to play with the pitch pump settings n the vbar software. @ shein95 I didn't think I would need packs with a higher C rating. I have been able to get by with 25-35c packs, I guess its time to step my game up and get some 45c packs.

I will play with the pitch pump setting and report back after I come back from the field tomorrow. I only have four 5s packs at the moment, I planned on getting a few more before the end of the month anyway.

I know Kyle ran 1900 headspeed which could increase your pop...

If you have a Pyro700-52 laying around to try, I loved it on my 600se running 10s. IIRC we ran a 12T pinion.

In your OP you said you had the same setup. If memory serves me correct, Kyle was running a 5020-450kv motor @1900rpm. You mentioned your motor was a 4035 so that may be some of your difference.

I didn't have a chance to make it to the field today. I'm in the process of remodeling my living and bathrooms. I didn't have enough daylight left after I was done to get any flights in. I will have to try it out this saturday if it doesn't rain.
I was trying to play it safe when I put on the 13 tooth pinion. I would be able to get low head speeds without going really low on my throttle curve. And I would be able to get close to 1900rpms. I thought 1850 would be close enough to get that kind of pop I saw in the Quote:
I think I saw that I was a 4035-450 in a thread when the 600SE first came out, that was a long time ago so I could be wrong.

I got to try out the pitch pump settings in the vbar today. I set it each bank to 15 and did a few tic tocs and inverted pitch pumps to test things out. The heli felt way more responsive than it did the last time I flew. Even though it was super windy I could see and feel the difference. I think using the pitch pump feature in the vbar software did the trick. I also downloaded the vbar android app, and ordered a Bluetooth adapter. Now I will be able to tweak at the field insted of waiting until I get home.

Load different values for pitch pump in each bank and play away!

@ Big Fil you were right, Kyle was using a 5020-450 in that video.
