Default YGE 160 starting issue

Sometimes i have issues starting the extreme up.

Sometimes it will only turn up really slow , say 50 rpm ? The first time it did it to me i unplugged the esc , waited for the motor braking to stop working (residual) , then plugged in agian and it worked.

Then the next time i dropped the throttle to 0 agian and retry the start. This weekend it took 6 try's to start (hot day if that is a factor). But normally it will restart in 2-3 try's.

Not everytime but once in a while. I've got 34 flights on it now , had starting issues about 7-8 times , and too high a headspeed say 3 times.

Sometimes it will spin up much faster than it should in which case i throttle down and restart and it's fine

Possible factor ..

I orignally set the govenor within the software to 1800 rpm. First spoolup was scary and much faster than 1800. Didn't tach it but it was fast just from hearing it. So i trimmed the throttle back till it sounded like 1800. Had it checked with a skytach (i question the accuracy of these units) and it was 1750 or so ( i'm not half bad a guessing .. lol ) .

Took the machine home and plugged back into vabr and the rpm readout shows 1350 rpm in the vbar screen.

Would like to get this resolved as it's not 100% right and it may be related to the false starts.

Thanks for the help.

Martin

Two of us at our field get the same thing happen, starts and runs slow, we would also like to know the cause. We suspect that its a low point throttle issue as usually bumping the trim down one tick will get it started then bump the trim back to where it was and its fine again. The 2 at our field are using different radios one spektrum one Futaba so that rules out radio, so it can only be the YGE or Vbar Gov or a combination.

Hi everybody,

I have been experiencing the same problems from day one (end Feb) and to this date Mikado (or YGE) has not come up with a solution sofar. You can find my correspondence on the Logo Xxtreme site under the thread " spool up failure".
Mikado keeps telling that they are working on an update for the YGE for more than 4 months now......

Yesterday I have started a thread on Helifreak under YGE called " YGE 160/V bar 5.2 start up problems" because Mikado is no longer responding.....

Hope this gets sorted quickly

Try using YGE governor, I have been using it for some months without an issue.
You can use it until they have a solution. You have to e-mail YGE to get the instructions to set it up.

Thanks for the tip, however I am convinced there is something wrong with YGE I have.
I am very disappointed about this ESC, but maybe that is because I am used to work with Kontronik ESC and never had any issues
I am considering to put in a Kosmik

Regards,

Belgo

+1.

Stop banging your head against the wall with the YGE. No regrets with my Kosmik, other than it cost $800 and now I have to try and sell the YGE.

I had some issues too with it.
I had two motor shutdown while flying, after adding two toroidal cores (one at each end of the cable) and setting the YGE gobernor over 75% (I was told by YGE that set the gov between 75% and 85%, It was at 72% in both shutdowns), after that it is working flawlessly.

I am also waiting for kosmik to be available to replace it, also will change the motor, in other post are saying that it improves flight time.

At a funfly this weekend and it did it all 3 flights.

It happen to be quiet the second time and i noticed something

- try to start - back down to 0 throttle
- try again - nothing , back down to 0 throttle
- wait 4-5 sec

- i get the initallization tune again

- starts up with hell of a kick of course.

the last 2 flights after it did the initialization tune it started first try.

Maby a clue as to why ?

Anyone else notice the same thing ?

Sorry yge , but after several years , i just love my jives . KISS at it's finest

There is a fix for spool up failures but you will need to return it to YGE for it to have a firmware upgrade

Where is yge located ? or there service center located ?

Does it take a long time to get done ?

Is there a charge for the update ?

I guess they could do the upgrade to 16s while there at it

Martin,

YGE are based in Germany, google them and you will find their website. I beleive theres no charge, explain its the spool up issue you have, when I enquiered it was a coupe of weeks turn round time, best asking them before you send it as it may change depending on their work load

Also be aware that is kind of a procedure for getting these serviced,

I did mine wrong and it stayed in customs for a long time.

It had to do with how I declared its value on the customs form, I found out later that the us distributed has a "how to return for service" post on h is website,

Their service was excellent though... Fixed my 120 HV at no charge, and turned it around fast once they had gotten it from customs.

I forget the details, but declaring it incorrectly on the customs form meant that YGE had to PAY to get it through customs... So they tried to straighten that out And that slowed things down I think. Not their fault.

I have looked for such a post and can't find it.

Could you be more specific?

A link to it would be appreciated.

A bit of a side question :

I signed up on the XXtreme forum a while back and it worked well.

Went to go find thread and after signing in i can't access XXtreme forum.

Followed the link above and it said i'm not allowed in the XX forum.

( i bought an XXtreme and had the forum working before )

Anyone else have this issue ? How can i fix it ?

Martin
