The completed canopy, not amazing but I'm happy as a first time painter.

I like the canopy, should help in orientation as the color contrast is significant enough.

Are you going from a Blade 130 to the 550 Swift?

You will enjoy it I am sure. If it flies as nice as my radikal I know you will have a hard time leaving it on the bench. I am thinking of a 500 size electric myself as a replacement for my 450. Just not sure what I want yet. I know it has to use 1 6 cell since I don't want more than 3 or 4 packs laying around.

Keep the photos coming and let me know how it flies when you finish it

Yes I still have the 130, I went to a friends club and everyone suggested going to a 550-600 size right away. I am fortunate to have experienced help to spec., build and set up my heli. AKA Furious Predator

I Now have a set of fiberglass main blades and a few other items on order. On a different note, I sold the 130x and bought Phoenix v4. Now I can practise without putting money into another heli while I learn.

Here is a revamp of the canopy, the green paint didn't adhere. So this is my second attempt as an amateur painter.

That looks even better and will be a lot more visible.

It did look better until I applied the clear coat, it puckered the paint in a few spots! At least it is still very visible. I think from now on I will leave the painting to the pros.

Do I have to balance the rotor head with fly bar? And when I do the tail blades should I balance the blade grips and hub with it? I know with the micros it is recommended but with the large amount of mass with the 550 parts is it necessary?

As for the balancing question yes balance the head with the flybar and paddles installed. Then after checking the blades cg ,span and cord and then balancing against one another install them in the balanced head assembling and recheck it as a assembly. The tail check the blade balance against each other and check the hub assembly and blades as a assembly also.A bit of work but it sure pays off when you have a nice smooth heli.

Here is a list of electronics I will be using. AR6200, GY611 and S9256 for the tail. Hyperion DS20X-SMD for cyclic and a Castle Talon ESC with Hacker 1100KV motor. I plan to go with 5S 4000mah batteries. This is my first build but I would like to build a 640 next year and can reuse the 5S packs. Thanks Dennis P and Furious Predator for help with component choices.

Looking really good !

Are you going with a 9T pinion ?

You're going to need a step down device/regulator for the S9256 - looks like it's rated only for 4.8V.

Not sure what pinion yet, when the ESC comes in I will order the motor then and we will work out the target head speed and pinion but I think it will be a 9. Furious Predator has offered me a step down device for my tail servo because I will be running 6 volts from the bec.

BTW - what did you do to the milk-jug canopy to get the paint to stick?

I'm thinking of trying the flashing method, but have to acquire a blow torch first ...

If his 550 is the same as mine, it comes with a nice fiberglass canopy and not the plastic milk jug stuff.

Have you tried giving it a light (400 grit) sanding and then applying one of the adhesive promotors used for the same plastic that is also used in today's bumpers:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=460112_0_0_

I have used it in the past and it worked pretty well.
