Then there's the financial aspect. What's the typical cheap-but-decent motel in that area charging these days?
Pala Hotel and Casino is right down the road. No idea what a room goes for.. Maybe I'll call and see if I can get a block rate...

I can bring it, just can't fly it. HOWEVER, Miramar is just a 50 min drive and I CAN fly it there... Mini-Road trip?

"I can bring it, just can't fly it."

So your turbine won't be that much different from mine?

Default 2011 Helifreak Fun Fly

Hey Guys:

Those of us from the Palomar RC Flyers are really excited about hosting this years Helifreak Fun Fly. We had a lot of fun putting on the 2011 San Diego Heli Fun Fly in June and we're getting stoked about this event.

I know it's already up in another posting but here's the PRCF website address:

There's info about the field and location as well as lots of photos and some videos. We'll be adding more photos from the 2011 San Diego Heli Fun Fly very soon. We took over 500 shots so there's lots of stuff. We'll also be adding content about the Helifreak Fun Fly so please visit the website often.

The weather in October should be warm-ish and if you're staying at the field it will be comfortable. At that time of year we'll be heading into the Santa Ana wind season so no open campfires will be allowed. Otherwise campers, RVs and tents are welcome.

I look forward to meeting you all and having a great time in October.

This definitely sounds like the FF to make it to if you can. It isn't looking promising right now but who knows what a few months can bring.

It is already programmed into my GPS and my (wonderful and tolerant) wife is already looking for a hotel.

Hmmm... dunno if having my wife stay at a casino is such a good idea... On second thought if she wins BIG maybe she would buy me a new bird! Google Maps says it is 5.8 miles from the casino to the field!

I just looked up the cost for a basic room at the casino
Friday night-169
Saturday night-199

That would pay for a LOT of spare parts.

Ouch!

There's an Econolodge in town that's in a much more palatable price range. I have a problem spending a lot of money on a motel when I spend so little time there.

There are also a couple of hotels nearby I have been told. One is a La Quinta.

Not likely. However, I have every intention of making it next year.
