Trex 600 FB to 700 FBL
Yesterday, I had a devastating crash with my 600 ESP FB. Funny thing is that this was the 1st and only crash I have had since I purchased her back in late '09. Nonetheless, I will need to rekit, but instead of going with another 600 FB I'm going with a 700 FBL this time around. When I purchased the 600, I brought the heli as a build your own combo from Grandrc. Make no mistake I will be upgrading to the V2 version, but I don't know if I will be better off with the DFC head or non-DFC head. my style of flying pretty much consists of big wide open manuevers like FFF, simple flips and figure 8's no 3D. Lastly, I went to Grandrc's website and listed all the options that I believe may work best for me. With that being stated how does the below list look for my style flying:
Cylic Servos: Align DS610 ESC: Jive 120 HV (thought about CC 120 HV - heard bad things about this) FBL Gyro: BeastX Kit: V2 Main Blades: Align 690D (are these carbon fiber and rate for FBL?) Motor: Align 700MX (Is this good for a 12s application?) Receiver: (Can still reuse Futaba R6208SB from 600 - not damaged at all) Tail servo: BLS251 (have a new DS650 lying around - if so I can save some $$$) |

First. Welcome to the 700 Club (or soon to be). Second, where do you normally fly? I'm in Spring. too.

As long as you run a head speed of 1900+ you will be fine with the DFC head. I have not heard anyone running lower hs but I may be wrong. The reason why I say that is usually lower hs require softer dampers which are not a good idea to run with the DFC. You need a stiff head with hard dampers and also keep your blades tight. Other then that the Jive is a great choice, the 700MX is a decent motor, and the 251 is a decent tail servo too...much better than the ds650. The stock 690's that come with the kit are fbl blades. Good luck

Thx for the reply thus far guys. Do you think the Jive 120 is worth so much more than ICE 120? I am trying to keep cost down a little, however, with all the horror stories of the ICE 120, if it's worth it then so be it I will take the plunge for peace of mind sake.

The Scorpion 130ESC had been great to me! It's 250 for the OPTO version (no built in BEC). There have been a few failures, some accredited to improper setup and some of the SBEC models I believe had a bad step down chip. I have 4 of them now and for the price/reliability it's great!

The ICE 120 horror stories are probably a thing of the past. The new ones have been about bulletproof so far - the failure rate seems to be back down to really really rare.
Anybody seen more than just one or two failure posts post recall?

My ICE2 80 (newest one, red stickers) just blown off on bench (even before the spoolup), it survived like 30 flights (Vision 50E, Scorpion motor) last week, while my friend's 120HV also newest blew off midflight in his Goblin last friday. That would be all as for bulletproof CastleCremations ESC
