VRS= vortex ring state

Its basically vortices that cause the blades to stall and stop producing lift. Normally any change in attitude via cyclic input would counteract the situation.

Does it do it every time you hover? You say it also did it when it was flybar setup. Mechanically i would check main shaft collar play...that would make the most sense.
Maybe the servos stalling. And since all three servos are the same and for collective motions like used in a hover they should be working together its possible they could all stall together. Maybe you have excessive noise in your electrical system? The wiring is all very close together in a protos.

Good luck chasing it down. You have me curious. My 450 acted similar (from what i have read) and it was the mainshaft had to much play between upper bearing block and mainshaft collar.

If it happens all the time, every flight I wouldn't blame VRS.

It doesn't sound like VRS at all.

You need to be in descent to get into VRS. You say you are in a stable hover.

3 things need to happen for VRS.

Below translational lift (hover)
Power applied (not dropping the collective too far, still some + pitch)
Descending (speed of descent depends entirely on weight, faster for heavier)

Sounds like a setup issue.

I'll get a vid of setup later but I assure you, Heli is solid. I can yank on the mainshaft no movement, yet servos move smooth

Get a flight vid of what you are talking about too.

Just got back from sledding in the mtns. Snowing like a bugger here so no flight vid, but maybe vid of the swash movement later. If I don't pass out. Rough day, Rodeo in the Steep and Deep today!

I say reset the BeastX and start your setup totally over, don't go back and look at your notes either. I'd also reset the model on your tx to. Something funny is happening electronically IMO. Matt

sounds like worn thrust bearings to me. I had the same behaviour with my trex700, it was just impossible to maintain a constant hover because the blade grips would jump to the next notch in the thrust bearing.

Beastx has nothing to do with collective pitch so no need to do the setup over again.

I didn't even think of this possibility. I've put a lot of flights on all my helis' thrust bearings and haven't changed anything. On my Logo, I have almost 300 flights and haven't changed anything except dampeners and that's because I wanted to try the Trueblood ones, and not because the originals felt worn or soft. One Protos has maybe 300 flights with same thrust bearings. The other maybe 200.

Update: Thinking about it a bit more, this wouldn't explain why I don't have this problem when doing aileron tic-tocs with nose pointing right.

Not thrust bearings. There new. Can pull on grips as hard as you want, smooth no notchyness

Yeah at the 2 min mark that looks like settling with power leading to VRS.

The more I fly the more I think that's just what it is. And it gets worse closer to the ground. No fields here to fly ATM, to much snow etc, so hovering in front of my house. maybe I am just to darn low?

I didn't see you getting VRS close to the ground. When you where close to the ground you where simply experiencing "ground effect".
