Default Getting the TT in the boom

I know a saw a thread somewhere about this But i've tried just about everything for the last hour.

I used thin silicone spray, all over the rubber thats on the plastic bearing holder, to thick silicone grease. how are you guys getting this in there without chewing up the rubber?

I used triflow... although it wasn't easy, it slipped in with enough force

I had to force it in too . Important is that the 3 bearings are glued in with 2 components epoxy or they will come loose

I actually ended up using Astroglide. It works very well and since its water based should not hurt anything in the long run.

Thats what I used.

I dont think I can go back to that drug store again.

The look I got when buying a pack of XL nitrile Gloves and AstroGlide was pretty funny though!

Beyond funny!

I use Unique Case Lube for stuffing booms. Works really well with little mess and is easy to clean up afterwards.

As for the Agile 5.5 bearing holders. I ended up buying three sets and all were impossibly difficult to try and get in the boom. They all measured 25mm OD and the tail boom is 23.5mm ID. I have a small lathe so I turned down the plastic bearing holders until I got the right fit so not too much of a problem. But what about other people?

So, are they all like that or has this been fixed in newer batches?

Anyway, I recently built a Synergy E5 and they use a similar bearing housing with the same torque tube bearing so I tried the Agile rubber ring with the Synergy plastic housing and they fit together like they were designed for each other! Perfect fit in the Agile boom too! I mean smooth with just the right friction. If anyone is interested, the P/N is 320-503.

In the directions it says the TT bearings don't have to be glued to the TT

In my build I struggled to get them even to go into the boom when glued to the TT, and when I tried to slide them in the rubber popped off the bearing holder ... After a couple of hours I had that TT installed.

Later Had a small crash and had to replace bent boom and TT

So this time I used the old TT ( I cut the bent part off. And took the rubber off the bearing holder) and used it to push the bearing assembies into the boom from each end...

Basically I just inserted the bearing assembly into the boom, flush with end of the boom, and inserted the short end of my pusher into the bearing assembly until it's bearing ( still had the plastic cover on it) contacted the new bearing, and pushed it into the TT

The biggest problem I had doing it the other way was getting the rubber to go into the boom without popping the Bavarians plastic cover... With it not glued onto the TT, it was much easier get the rubber into the boom, by tilting the bearing just a little, and then working it and the rubber into the boom until flush.

This way they are trivial to push in, and the plastic on the bearing of the pusher contacts the rubber on the installed bearing so the rubber doesn't pop off.

I just calculated how far from each end they needed to be pushed, and marked the old TT " pusher" with a felt tip pen to use as a gauge.

Then I slipped the new TT into the boom and through the bearings and epoxied the TT end caps on.

So much easier this way. I used a bit of triflow oil to get the bearing assembly to slide easily into the boom

Essentially the same as what I also do. I use the clear plastic tube that one torque tube came in or another smaller tail boom as a pusher tube and also come in from both ends.

But these issues we are experiencing are due to a poorly sized plastic bearing housing that the rubber part is stretched over, which could/should be corrected easily if not already.

I took a Dremel with a sanding drum to mines.
With the bearing, holders and rubber all mounted and glued to the TT I just held the sanding drum against the rubber and spun it up.

After maybe 30sec per bearing they were smoothed down enough to go in much easier with a little silicone spray.

I glue the bearing supports on the TT then grease them and grease the inside of the boom where they first go in and they slide right pretty easy at least for me.

Pour some rubbing alcohol down the boom and swish it around. Also wet the outside of the bearing rubber with alcohol. With alcohol as lubricant they will easily slide right down the tube. When the alcohol dries they locked in place.
