Default 700 bec

Getting a Trex 700 v3 soon and wondering who prefers not using a bec . This will be my first heli of this size and I know the HV model does not come with a bec.

On the High Voltage model you do not require any soft of a BEC. Just run a 2S Lipo pack straight into receiver / FBL Unit.

When I had my 700V2 I actually preferred using a separate 2S pack. It definitely makes it easy for setup and tweaking at the field.

Almost 100% of the Align 700 setups I have seen over the years use a dedicated Rx pack to power the Servos and FBL unit (LV or HV). In the case of an ESC melt down you want to have the power coming from somewhere else so you can maintain control of the model. I've seen balls of fire shoot out of the backs of 700's and the pilots were able to get the model down safely.

Hope this helps...

Ok so even if I get the model that comes with the bec I don't have to use it, just a 2s lipo to power servos?

Pretty much...you can run straight 2s lipo. I chose to use a Gryphon regulator just because. I wouldnt use that cheap bec that align sends anyways.

I have the older version of the Trex 700E with JR8917's on cyclic and an 8900G on the tail.

I using a WR Super Hercules BEC running from one of the 6S packs.

It has been working very well for many, many flights (over a year and a half of flying).

The Combo that comes with the HV servos you can run straight 2s lipo with no regulator. The combo that comes with the standard digital servos are only rated up to 6.0 volts. Now some on here have run those with straight 2s and have had success but I won't reccommand it. You will want to use a regulator with those off a 2s lipo to lower the voltage to 6.0 volts.

The other option you have with a LV setup is to run a 2S LiFe battery direct to the Rx. This battery only outputs 6.6V and the voltage is more stable then a LiPo is actually. This is what I do now on my LV setups.

Just thought I would throw that solution out to you....

Yep. .. LiFe is the way to go for LV setups. I'm using that setup on my 600EFL Pro.

Another option to consider is using something like an Emcotec regulated HV switch with a magnetic on / off feature. Very convenient on off and I use two very large 2 cell Lipos for the electronics. I literally leave the batts in place for about a month between charges - maybe 15 - 20 flights. Emcotec tells me when one or both batts start to go low voltage. I also run the SPS isolator for the 12s side, which is also very convenient and safe. Just a thought.

Wow nice work on that setup! I appreciate all of the ideas from you guys, can't wait to get mine. I definitely like a uncluttered look of electronics also simple and a lesser amount of devices that can fail. O, how are the main batteries connected? Series or parallel. I would guess they are in series.
