ESC for Electric Conversion
Hi guys,
I'm converting my Hawk Pro 30 to electric flybarless. I have a OUTRUNNER 550 PLUS 1300KV BRUSHLESS MOTOR (Part# CNE277). How many amps of a ESC & BEC do i need to run this motor, I'm using Hitec HS-5645MG servos & Microbeast gyro. I want to buy a Castle Creations ESC for this motor. Any flyers experience using Castle Creations ESC with this motor, please advice on your experience. My knowledge on eletronics are bad. Would appreciate if some experience flyers could give some advices. Thank you |

Go with a Ice 100 or the new Edge 100 and you will be fine and able to move up some if you want more power later.

I was expecting a 5 s pack with that setup. As for bec use at least a 10 amp external Bec with the FBL setup Western Robotics is my choice . What does that setup on 4s calculate out to for headspeed ? Are you using the clutch?
OK I looked it up and 1790rpm with the clutch on 4s but with direct drive you would have to go 5s and possible gearing changes depending on desired headspeed.

550 Motor
The Century 550 motor is not a very big motor it was used on the first Swift with 510 blades. Here is a picture of it by the Hacker
I think this is the 1470 but I'm sure it has the same size can |

I'm rather a bit confused. What would be the difference between a direct motor drive & the other using the clutch?. Which would be a better choice??. Which would need a higher head speed to fly?. Thanks

Has to do with gear ratio and how hard your motor has to work and your head speed , have you looked over these two charts?

Thanks Rotor for the info. I did a direct drive. Wanted to use a 4 S lipo. But after looking at the info you sent, i decided to go for a cluth drive. Got to wait for the CC Esc to arrive. I'm getting the CC 100 amps with 20 A Bec.

I am asking because that 550/1370 motor and 4S power system is a relatively low power system. Most that I know of use 5S or 6s power with a 600 sized motor (800 to 1100 KV).

I'm only in to sports flying. At my age for 3D, i did be crashing often then flying. So i don't need high power for sports flying.
So that's why i pick the 550/1300 century motor with a 4S bat. I don't need the power for sports flying. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |
