skid lights hughes 500
Hi Guys,
Does anyone have a good solution on how to make the skid lights for a hughes 500? I want to have the wires as invisible as possible, the skid tubes are not the problem, they are hollow but the legs are are solid (Mikado Hughes). Does anyone have a nice solution and maybe some pictures of how you did it. any idea is welcome, I try to find the best possible solution. Thanks Danny

If those are solid plastic, then just use a dremel and cut a channel along the thickest part of it and use thin gauge wires for the LEDs. Once the wires are in the channel, you can conceal it with some epoxy putty or something similar. Sand, paint and good as new.

I used a similar technique to yf222000 but rather than go through the middle of the strut, I cut a channel in the leading edges of the two rear struts, used 30 gauge wire, glued them in the channel and then used JB Weld to redo the shape of the leading edge. It's in my build thread for my 500MD TD. Unless you are making landing gear or the set you have is hollow tubing, there are only a couple of options to hide the wires. You can always run fine wires down the back side of the struts and just paint them if you can't do it any other way. It is also possible to run a tube in a cut as suggested by yf222000 in the event you crash and that makes running the wires only a bit easier as you still have to cut the channel in the new struts. Consider crashes with any method you use and I have crashed mine a couple of times where the struts were broken. $&*# happens. Take care.
