Thanks for the link. It's just about ready, all I have left is to set the end points for the throttle and check the cg.

She flies [emoji12]!!!!
Everything looked good other than having to adjust tracking. The motor did seem quite warm though. I only ran it in normal mode at 1800 rpm at 30% on gov. How warm is normal for the motor? I could just keep my fingers on it, but couldn't have stood much more.

Blades out of track causes a lot of heat build up. I worked on a 450 for a friend, he was complaining of wierd noise, lack of power, super short flight time and hot esc/motor. Flew it once and the blades were about 2-3 degrees out of track! Horrible fluttering noise tbo etc. Once I fixed that the motor/esc heat and short flight times also disappeared.

I'm sure yours isnt that bad, but fix that first. Depending on your motor and flight style, it is safe for motors to be so hot you can just touch them for just a second with the back of your hand

No it is just out barely. I will adjust next flight. What is the recommend HS for normal, I/U 1 and 2 ? The max I can get is 2240 thru the castle program with my current gearing

How much pitch? Sucker looked fast in a climb. Dial your headspeed closer to 2400 and add some gain to lock that tail in

I have +- 13 degrees in I/U 2 . Will have to continue to tune the tail for sure. I'm maxed out on HS in the castle program.

Castle is conservative. Set the rpm calculator to 4.0v instead of 3.7v for better values

I'll give that a try! I did notice my motor was running cooler in I/U2.

Looks good!

You mentioned 30% on the governor. It's really important on this heli to run the governor gain low, about 13% (that's less that the standard 'low' setting of 15) is about right. If you run anything much higher the pulsing through the drive train strips out the torque tube drive gears, it a common failure on this heli but lowering the gain does a lot to prevent it.

The 600MX motor does run very hot, the lower gain might help that too but even so they still run hot. This motor like a lot of Align motors doesn't have a lot of copper in the windings, so winding resistance is high leading to high temps. Not a lot you can do about it short of a rewind or a new motor, but the gain might help a bit.

The 30% was on the throttle setting for normal mode[emoji6] I didn't change the gov gain it is still at 15. I was curious as to the motor temp though, the esc was barely warm and I couldn't feel any heat on the batteries.

Ahhh.. that explains it,
15% on the gain should be ok but if when you do any hard collective you hear a 'chirping' noise, that's the drive gears 'lashing'. If you hear it then drop the gain a % or two further.

The hot motor is probably something you will have to get used to, they (the 600MX) all seem to be that way.

Default New to me 600E

I flew it 4 min and only pulled the down to 3.97 v but didn't really tax it. Maybe I'll be alright using the 3000 packs

I'm glad to hear that. I'm also hoping to use 3000mah packs on my 600, and 4 min flights is OK by me.

That was a really non-taxing flight

You are exactly right. I was hoping for 3 minutes of yanking it around on these packs. If not I will be getting some different packs. What should I go with 3300's or 3700's ?

Why don't you fly the heli in your normal style on the packs you have and see what time you get out of them? You can then make an informed decision on if you need anything larger and if so by how much?
