Default Need Help.

Hello there. I am about to install the Lynx gears onto my Dad's 300x. I have the blades off, and I've ben studying the helicopter and not sure what to do. The gear that Dad ordered a while back did NOT come with the hub installed, so can I use the factory hub on it?

I know I've used the 300x stock gear on the Lynx OWB so they must be interchangable.

I'm sure you can use it with the stock hub. I'm running the Lynx OWB with the stock gear without issues.

Is it an easy swap?

Very easy to change out.

Watch these videos, but there's no need to remove the head like they do just pop off the swash plate links.

Well yea, that was fast. I successfully changed out both the main gear, and the pinion gear. I don't remember how noisy it was before, but seems quieter now.
My Dad was kind enough last night while I was at work, to pair the 300x to my DX7 and set it up. So now, I can fly this bird.
Now I need to do it on the 450x.
Thanks guys, didn't need that video after all but I'm sure it'll help somebody else. Thanks! I love this forum.

Hovered it in the basement and it's much quieter than before. Hovered it for my Dad and he said it was quieter as well, so great job Lynx on making this bird quieter than Blade did.
Also succeeded with Dad's 450x as well.

Varc, with the beveled gears the heli will be quieter. Open straight gears typically are noisier due to the way they mesh vs. bevel gears. Glad you also got things figured out. These gears will fit either Blade hub, 300X or the 450X.

To expound on what GSPI said...

Slant gears are quieter because the teeth of the two gears "slide" into each other. You'll notice that the bottom of the pinion tooth makes contact with the main gear before the top does. This means less friction which equates to less noise.

My out look.

Sound is sound waves. Sound waves are created by vibrations. Less noise means apparently less vibrations.

Not true in this case. Slant gear is more quiet purely due to geometry. Instead of having the whole width of a tooth on the pinion engage the main gear at once, there's only a single point of contact at any given time simply due to the curved nature of the tooth surface across the width. That's why straight-cut pinion of 9T or fewer any size any mod gets noisier than 10T+. Some better machined straight-cut gears have their tooth face curved to lessen the sudden engagement effect.

Yeppers. The bottom of the pinion tooth grabs the main gear first, and by the time the top of the pinion tooth slides into the gear, the bottom part is getting ready to slide out. So there's less contact between the main gear and pinion as each tooth engages.
