Glenn,
The fuel tank in the pictures above is the Nalgene tank. The cap and bottle have threads on them that are deeper and cover a larger area. The tank above is what needs to be used with the YS motor or the OS motor with a Cline Regulator.

The tank that has been coming with the Stratus is white plastic and has a black plastic cap. You can see it in the instructions for the Stratus on the MA website.
This tank will work with a motor than does not use back plate pressure to pressurize the tank. It will work fine with a system that uses muffler pressure.

Hello

Another thing that I did was to use the 121-2 pushrod kit. It is 2.5mm style with the grey link ends and includes all three bellcrank to swash links and the 4 longest links above the swash plate. My Fury came with a smaller diameter pushrod so I upgraded.

The part number 121-2 says for a Spectra but is the right kit for the Stratus. The 121-1 pushrod kit for the Fury does not have the right length bellcrank to swash link for the elevator. All three of the bellcrank to swash links are the same length on the Stratus.

Darrel, They're in the new kits from MA. I'm guessing if you order the YS version you get the nalgen tank.

MAN .. when did you go DOWN UNDER!?

I finished my build last night and I'm very happy with the way it went together. Starting with the best plans I've ever seen made the conversion easy. The parts count is much reduced and it looks like maintenance is going to be a lot easier. I particularly like the way the top comes off to access the engine. I didn't like butchering my canopy, but It look great on the machine so I got over that. The only thing I don't like about the machine is the pill bottle lid sticking out of the side of the heli. It's a small thing and since I'm going to fly the helicopter tomorrow I'll probably get over that too.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the bottle sticking out. Because it has to clear the muffler on the other side it's not centered on the heli. Also, because the fuel pickup is centered on the heli and not the fuel tank it doesn't completely reach the right side of the tank. I don't believe these minor imperfections affect it's performance. Still, it would be nice if the tank was 'taller' and not wider.

******Warning****** If you are converting an "upgraded" expert then you'll also need a newer clutch stack. I found this out when I was about to install the tempest middle bearing block and it wouldn't seat all the way like in the pic. When I tried to install the HD clutch it wouldn't screw in all the way. the older clutch driver has a higher step than a newer one. this is because the older style(black) bearing block had the bearing sitting up further in the block. i think part # 120-26 is the part needed. It is only the clutch drive w/ shaft, pins and delrin ball. I'll confrim w/ Dino at eastcoast to find out. I hope everything else works fine, i.e. the upper bearing block isn't different in any way. This sucks!!! I was trying to get her ready for today! Hopefully I can keep going until that part comes in.

By the way guys, if you dont want to buy the stratus tank, the standard fury tank will also fit.

Question regarding Stratus conversion,
I am thinking about converting my Tempest 3D to stratus - has anyone converted a Tempest and what do you think - will it be worth it, if I do mostly 3D,
Also, will I need additional parts beyond the Stratus conversion kit - converting the Tempest 3D,
About long is it taking you guys to do the conversion???

Thanks for the input,
JH - NY

Takes about 5 -6 hours to complete the conversion. If your converting a Tempest nothing else is needed. If you don't have the heavy duty clutch bell and clutch I would recommend that you get them. The Stratus is weighing about 10 to 14 ozs less than the Tempest with the same equipment installed.

I think Clintstone did his Tempest just a few days ago. He told me it didn't take him long and he took a break to do a "honey do" or something, in between.

Hey David, you get rested up good from the Nats? Looks like your going to be busy Judging the 2005 FAI F3C World Championships. We're gonna miss you at IRCHA. Congratulations on the Judge deal. GO USA!

Yeah Dee I am going to use the standard tank. My kit came with the OS tank but I am running the Oneal Carb and it is recommended to run the nalgene tank. However, not having one available, we tried to use the standard tank and it fits with about 10 mm each end.

Glenn,
The standard Fury tank will not be a problem. I know several Stratus owners that are running the OS/Cline setup and using the standard tank.
