You need longer boom. Might be able to use x4 boom, the hurricane boom is too short for the "x" series mounting. The belt will fit fine, the xtra 30mm is for mounting. That is why I used x5 belt boom. and not the 500 hurricane boom.
Besides, I understand crash cost but only diff is price of blades at that point and you may save a few smaller crashes simply by ability to have a little more float on your auto That being the reason I stretched to begin with. Last thing you want to do to this heli is shrink it, The weight is just a bit much, IMO, and if you shorten boom you will almost def loose tail control. IMO it flies so much nicer stretched, granted I'm not Bert, and he may differ w/me over the agility it may loose, but for most of us I feel the benefit outweighs this.

Was there a particular reason you went with the hurricane belt instead of all X5 stuff? I was toying with the idea of seeing how much lighter the X5 belted tail would be (compared to X5 TT) using all X5 parts:

GAUI X5 TAIL BOOM (FOR X5 BELT DRIVEN VERSION-BLACK ANODIZED) G-208323
GAUI X5 FRONT PULLEY SET AND PULLEY SHAFT WITH 15T STEEL GEAR G-208383
GAUI X5 TAIL OUTPUT SHAFT BELT PULLEY G-208379
GAUI X5 TAIL ROTOR BELT 572XL G-208911

Just curious at the reasoning behind a cut-down boom with a different belt, purely weight concerns?

Had most of parts on hand, The x5 and Hurricane parts are the same just different #s and bags. Went w/500 belt, cut down boom because of tail weight concerns, Already a tail heavy machine and just wanted to share blades w/my stretched Protos

How is yours doing?

I enjoy trying unique stuff, If you noticed my sig, Gazotos,is a hybrid Gazaur 480/mini Protos 2 of my favorite helis and it's awesome! Nothing like a little back yard engineering
