spinning like a top
Hi all, I have been on other parts of this fourm asking this question;
and some of the answers are confuesing!!! this is the question right at hover When the heli takes off it starts spinning like a top!!! The blades turn clockwise & the heli spins counterclockwise I am getting so confused with the different answers I am getting The heli is a KDS 450 S (Well it’s a sv now, after all of the crashes I got the upgraded parts) I am new so some of the talk I don’t Understand what’s rate mode, what’s hh mean how do you reverse Your gyro these are some of the questions I would like a answer too Please. But the main question is, why is the heli spinning out of control!!!!! Thanks P.S. I also have the flymentor system on the heli |

spinning out of control cause either the tail blades are spinning backwards, something assembled backwards or the gyro correction direction is incorrect(not the stick direction))

when you say "counterclockwise" - from which side of the heli are you looking at it? If you look from the right side then CCW is ok. if you look from the left side, it needs to turn CW.

Ok from what you posted the blades are spinning the right way.
I don’t know what I did but, I think I got it to stop spinning so much The problem now is, the rudder stick is so sensitive; a little stick Either way, and it turns real fast. I think if I can get this adjusted I will be ready to hover. can you please tell me what adjustment may fix this problem Thanks again . |

I commented on your earlier post in a different section, wish I would have know you had the flymentor installed, go thru the manual again on the flymentor, check your tail servo for 90 degrees at mid stick with throttle hold turned on, I have heard that the flymentor will takes over and if you do not have it set up correctly it could be the cause of the rudder being touchy as it also controls the gyro, also check your tail to make sure it is centered and has the correct travel in each direction.
How high up are you flying? You might not be up high enough for the flymentor to "see", also concrete and asphalt does affect these unit to a certain extent. I personally do not have a flymentor installed but did consider one but chose not to get one. The people here are great and I'm sure they will point you in the right direction if they haven't already.

I have a 960 S.Q. garage this is where I am trying to hover, I have the lights on
But I am just wondering if this is enough light, it seems like there is always some Win here in Vegas so I haven’t even tired to fly out side (I already know what that outcome is going to be, not good) Thanks for the information, to much $$$ invested now to give-up. |

armon,
There are many people in the Las Vegas area, reach out to one of them (look on the event forum there was just a huge fun fly) hopefully one of them will come look at your set up and guide you in the right direction, never said once to give up, in fact the opposite, patience, keep asking questions, hopefully find a local mentor and enjoy once you get it set up correctly. Wish I could help you more!

Armon, one of the problems is that some of the guy's that answer your questions have not notice that you are useing a Flymentor with a Piezo gyro. Setting up a Piezo gyro is much harder than setting up a SMM gyro
Most people useing FM have difficulty with the tail, most give up and fit a seperate tail gyro. As I have told you the $10 Assam ga250 works well or if you prefere any other make of SMM gyro. The Flymentor tail gyro can work but only if you set it up the way I have told you in the other thread. The tail blade pitch should be set with enough pitch set to compensate for main blade torque at mid stick and servo centered so the gyro has little work to do. That means that the tail slider is offset towards the boom not cenrered. This method of setting up Piezo gyro's was common before SMM gyro's came along. Google it. Flymentor is a clone of Helicommand and they recommend that the tail is set up this way. Because the heli's main blades turn clockwise the heli turns anti clockwise and pitch on the main blades must be used to stop it. |

Do you think I should try a SMM gyro? If so, where is the best place to buy one?
And will it fit in the flymentor connection? Not to many helicopter shops in Vegas, the main one is hobby town |

Not familar with your TX but if you download the manuel ( link in post 4 above ) mixer off is explained on page 4. If the swash is moving correctly then you tip the heli then mixing is already switched off on the TX.
You should find it much easier to set up a SMM gyro it would connect directly to the reciever and controled by the TX it would have no connection to FM. it would work the same as it would on a heli without FM but bear in mind that you would still need to learn how to set up a gyro I buy my Assam ga250's from Hobbyking but if you want it quicker or another make then google it you may find them in your country. I use the GA250 because they are tiny and work as well as much more expencive gyro's. As I have said the FM tail gyro does work but it must be set up as I have explained, I have set up many of them but I do have the advantage of having a turntable so I don't have to hover the heli to set it up. |
