13th Flight. Whatcha Think?
Hi guys! Decided to put his where it should have went.
I was finally able to drag wifey out to shoot some vid for me. We have 3 and 2 year olds boys so it's not easy. Vid is not the best by any means but she did okay for her first time shooting a heli. Unfortunately she had to pause a couple times to stop the boys from destroying the van lol. That's why there is a couple cuts in it. Of course she missed my attemp at a piro flip...it was fairly decent too lol, but there will be more to come. Still needs a little more fine tuning but it's getting close. This is my 13th flight ever. Weather is awesome today, I think I am going to head back out for a few more flights Anyway, let me know whatcha think. Looks like your enjoying the 3d+.. great to see another FB'er.. Do the new 3d+ kits include the metal blade grips? I purchased airframe 2nd hand, so have the reinforced black plastic grips. What pipe are you running? It sounds lean compared to mine. (I run OS50hyper too). Im only new to nitro so for all I know I could be rich and your on the money... Always nice to see 3d+ vid's as there isnt that many around... |

I don't think they come with the metal grips. I bought mine in new/used condition, It had never been completely assembled. The previous owner upgraded the grips so I just lucked out.
I have no intention of going flybarless any time soon That is an Align pipe. It is possible I'm on the lean side, but she reposnds good, smoke is there and the temp doesn't seem too hot. Although at the moment I am just going off the back plate as I lent my temp gauge out. I will be tweaking on her some more tomorrow. This is my first heli so I don't have much to go off. Dave

Yup, 13th flight ever. Phoenix paid for it self the first time I flew this heli and didn't crash it lol
This thing is awesome! I had it out again today for flights16 and 17. Managed my first inverted forward and backwards 8's and am flying around upright backwards quite comfortably now. Even though I know I can do it, the inverted stuff is still a little nerve racking. I will try and get another video tomorrow. Oh, and the FBL blades work quite nicely. Of course they are all I've ever flown... Will be looking to get some Compass 615's asap.

Nice flying bud.... People can take some good pointers from your flying. People just need to practice on the sim and harden the #*Y up : )

Thanks guys!
I did flight 18 yesterday but the vid isn't very good. Too much sun, I could barely track the heli and had to bail out of certain orientations. I will try again today hopefully. I want to nail my circuits and 8's in all orientations and directions. All that time on the sim has paid off huge, that and knowing what the machine is capable of from watching vids as well as being confident that I have it set up right. Those are the key things that allowed me the confidence to go out and start throwing it around so soon. Pucker factor is HUGE! lol and the first dozen flights my thumbs were shaking so bad I had to land a couple times to regroup.

Your progress/learning curve is very similar to mine. I wish I could put it completely down to the heli (3d+) but i think the sim has more to do with it..
I did 6-8months of sim time before I had my first flight.. Make all the difference. I 'master' a maneuver in the sim and how/when to bailout before I even think of attempting it at the field.. I also think growing up in the late 80's/90's playing video games and my sporting background helped significantly in being able to progress quickly.. That reminds me, time for some sim practice now... |

That is definitely the best approach. When I bought my first CX2 toy heli. I've spent quite a bit of time and money going back and forth to the LHS for parts just trying to learn to hover. Then it was Trex 450 Sport and a DX7. Tons of crashes, tons of money spent. Then I discovered the simulator but by that time the pucker factor has overtaken me and it took quite a while to get over it.

Sim made it possible. Hands down. Moving from sim to real life was just like changing models in the sim. Feels different but the controls are identical, so I just had to feel it out, get used to the power and flip/roll rates and I'm good to go.
I too grew up in the late 80's to 90's. Got my NES when I was 8 years old. Thumber for life Hmm, gonna play a little PS3 now.

No. I keep selling the gyro I set aside for it (SK720) and when the new one arrives, I get too busy to work on it. LOL!
I'll have it flying before the snow flies ... I'm setting a goal. We're waiting on the 615s still ... I have a new set that I put on my 3DPlus that have never been spun up yet, if you're desperate for them, I'd be happy to sell them. They are brand new. |

Thank you for the offer! Consider them safe for at least a couple weeks lol. Two - three weeks and I'll likely be ready to place another order. I'll need some more dampers too lol
Anyway, here is flight 18. Too much sun in my face really, but I pulled it off half decent. Still just feeling it out some more. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DjJyz0uTJc[/ame]

That is a public "green space" I am on, and further out is a storm water collection field/basin. Dry now, but at times it is a small pond of sorts.
There is a parking lot directly behind me, and off to the left is a huge over grown feild with un-groomed trails where people walk there dogs. When the sun is in that position I have gone over to the other end so the sun is at my back instead, but than I have to lug everything down that big hill off in the distance. Videographer (AKA wife) wasn't up for that Actually I'm hoping to get out there when there is some water. I'll get the over-water effects without any real risk of losing my heli as the very center would be shallow enough to wade out to if I crashed.

I can't remember, did we get you KBDD dampeners? If not, you should try them if you're burning through them.
I should have 615's back in stock before your timeline hits. I was thinking the same thing ... looks like a golf course! LOL! Nice vid!! |

Yeah I got a set of extreme blues off you, but I screwed up on installation... They still work, but I want them to be 100% right.
See the KBDD/notchy bearing thread out in the main comapass area for details. I really want to try a set of those blades. I will want a set as soon as I can swing it
