Bummer! Maybe let her open one of hers?

Seriously though, you will love the pro. I went from a 500 3G to the pro and couldn't be happier. Very solid and straight forward build, easy to setup and flys great.

Someone mentioned that you can fly the 3GX without tweaking settings on your computer and they are absolutely correct. All I did with mine after the maiden was tweak gyro gain just a tad and it locked in really tight. I have yet to even connect the usb and just put flights 65 through 68 on it yesterday and really don't feel the need to change anything.

Congrats on the new toy and have fun!

Wow I'm glad you have this experience, mine was far from that!
Do you have any porpoising issue in FFF? No disconnected feel? Tic tocs, piro flips OK?

It's probably because he hasn't 'downgraded' to v1.2 software. 1.2 made the tail better, but it also gave a nasty disconnected feel that I can never dial out, prefer the beastx equipped 500. I'm going to try a miniv in my other 500efl and see how it feels vs beastx.

Maybe I should have qualified my post as to where my flying skills are at this point. I am currently flying what I would call aggressive sport. FFF, hard knife edge turns, flips, rolls and fast loops. Some inverted but not confident enough for close to the deck yet. I'm not really into hard 3D so can't asses piro-flips and tic-tocs at this point. For the maneuvers I've mentioned, my heli is solid with no porpoising at all. Got lucky I guess.

You are correct. Version 1.1 at the moment. After what you and some others have posted about the "upgrade", I think I'll wait for the next one and see how it's received.

Default Going to maiden mine tonight

Just finished my build and am going to take her for a test flight after work today, I have set up the 3gx as per the manual (12deg collective and 12deg cyclic)

I'm in the same Boat as JAG1, I don't do 3D only light sport for now(no inverted flight yet) and I am wondering if I should tone the cyclic down to 7deg like I do on my FB helis or does the 3GX need that much cyclic range to operate properly?

Also is there anything else I should do before I maiden this bird? Is it recommended to adjust any settings on the PC?

I'm just nervous as this is my first Align heli all my others have been clones.

Also JAG my wife said I couldn't have mine till Christmas but I argued that if I got it then I wouldn't be able to fly it till new year (travelling to see relatives then parties and other commitments) So she let me start building last Saturday and the build went quicker than I thought. Give that a try

The 3Gx needs that pitch range to function properly. Use you dual rates on your transmitter to reduce pitch range. I would connect the 3Gx to the computer as you need to select the right heli parameters. I've set up 5 different 3gx helis and I've never seen one properly set up from the factory. I'd also remove 3gx built in expo and use the transmitter expo instead. Much easier to adjust on the fly.

+1 set it as per manual and then reduce it with your DR.

Great! the manual gives the impression that if you change any settings on your Tx (DR and Expo inc) you need to re-do the initial set-up. Is this right or does it need to be done only when I change the mechanical set-up or swash mix values? from what I understand the 3GX only needs to "know" the maximum range the servo's can go without binding, so if that doesn't change you don't need to re-do the initial set-up. Then I can limit everything as you guys have stated using expo and DR.
I'll get the software installed after work today and have a look at all the parameters on the unit then got through and set my expo and DRs and hopefully be in the air before sundown

I limited in the the swash menu after I had already dialed in the max throw. Seems to work alright. I think it would be a problem if you went beyond the max you set up in the 3gx but going down has not proved to be an issue. I do however limit my collective with the pitch curve not the swash mix.

just maidened my efl. With the 3gx set to "beginner mode" with the built in expo disabled and cyclic limited to 9deg using Tx DRs it was twichy to say the least. I further reduced the DR to 60% (around 7deg cyclic) and she flew nicely, i just need to get used to the system holding it's headding momentarily. I have since played with the custom settings(reduced bell mixing and increased hiller mixing a little) and added 15% Expo on my Tx.Too lateto go test now but I'm sure she will be even more mellow.
One thing I have not seen with any other gyro is the tail jittering as I moved the rudder but was perfectly smooth to stop and no oscillation any other time, it's just the rudder movments themselves aren't smooth.

So far so good, I got a vid of my first hop i'll upload soon.

Tail jittering usually means too much gain. Are you using Spektrums satellites or full receiver? It's confusing and has caused crashes but stupid align put the gyro gain on aux2 instead gear like 99% of other fbl systems out there when running satellites.

Full Rx here I need to buy a better tx...
You just reminded me I did turn down rudder control gain on the pc and have left the tx gain at 60% as suggested. Hopefully that gets rid of my jitters, if I wake up early enough tomorrow (oh god...today now) I'll go for a fly and report my thoughts back here after.
Thx for the advice so far ppl, it's doing me well

After adjusting my dr and expo a bit more she flies brilliantly!
Never thought I could feel so confident in a fbl system. But I have been down the europe of my ways
Posting a vid of my maiden on the vid thread. It ain't that pretty.

Dual Rates and Exponential, yes they are both in the same menu on my tx but I adjusted both. I lowered the DR on both ail and ele until my cyclic pitch was only 7° from stick moment. Then I added 15% Expo on ail and ele to smooth out centre stick a little.

As I said this worked really well for me.
