Breaking in the BAR!
That's what we are calling our new heli club... the BAR. Honey, I'm going to the BAR
(Bixby Area Rotors) A TREX 700 E and a Compass 7HV were claimed today. We actually have two heli's in our club now that have nautical designations (the other is an E7). USS TREX making way up stream. Notice the orange canopy is still great for orientation under water.

The trex looks like a salmon making its way upstream to spawn.
What was the cause of the demise of the trex and 7hv?

That's what I thought too. Maybe we will get a good run of TREX 450's this year.
The TREX stopped responding to the TX in flight and went in. The TX was Airtronics and I'm not sure what his FBL was (NOT vbar). The heli did not respond to hold either so there was a lot going on when it got wet. No logging on his FBL, so even if it dries out OK, we won't know what happened for sure. Very sad way to start out the day, but what an awesome pic. The 7HV was a boom strike on the landing. I wasn't flying, but was right there when it happened. There were some good gusts of wind and it was not that rough of a landing at all. The tail fin contacted ground first and the Compass blades cut the tail clean off right in front of us!

That has to be the smallest amount of damage I have ever seen with a boom strike. You are usually left picking up, carbon fiber, aluminum, and fiberglass dust. There must have been something come loose or some other sort of major mechanical malfunction to have a boom strike on landing. He got very lucky with the damage, but very unlucky to have a boom strike on landing

Dang. What a freaky event.
How's your home? You guys okay? Floodwaters here didn't turn out as bad as predicted.

Just a little wind damage and lost sleep for us. Tornados are just a part of spring for us in the Midwest. Glad your not under water. Is your field flooded still?

The pilot that lost communication to his TRex which resulted in a bath was flying a Helicommand. Not the first time I've heard of this happening with that FBL unit either.

Even if the hellicommand is salvaged, there isn't any flight log (like vbar)to look at for RCA (root cause analysis).
VBar for me.

Your post was the first time I've ever seen mentioned RCA in Helifreak. RCA is rather a specialty of mine. A very good friend owns the company formerly known as Apollo RCA. Heli accidents are prime for RCA!

I figured you've been down that road a few times. RCA is a big part of my IT world too.
There are plenty of opportunities to exercise those skills with our RC helis.
