Default Futaba SBS-01T on Trex 700N - where to place sensor?

Hi

I just bought a Futaba SBS-01T telemetry temperature sensor for my T700N.. I got it working and only thing I'm wondering is where to put the sensor wich is placed on a loop cable that is suposed go around the cylinder..

Should I place it at between the two lowest cooling fins on the head (red area) or around the cylinder between the fins (grey area)? The grey fins seems a bit narrow..

Any one else using this?

Here is the thing: There is no standard position for a temp sensor.

When I flew control line combat, we would measure the temperature at the base of the glow plug - where it screwed into the head.
This is the hottest point on the engine and changes the quickest due to mixture and load.

Using my TM1000 temperature probe loop, I used to wrap it around the fin that was closest to the exhaust with the ceramic pickup wedged in under the exhaust header.

Now, I use Arctic Silver Premium Silver two-part thermal bonding epoxy and glue the probe to the head next to the glow plug.

I like it.
I figure it gives me a better, truer reading of the engine's mixture / operating temps.

But, in the end, you can place your probe where ever you like.

The key would be to tune the engine as you normally do, fly it as you normally do and be happy with the performance and the response of the motor.
Then, see what the probe is reading.
What ever that temperature is becomes the "normal" for the position the probe is mounted.
Now, don't move the probe around.

And, do not chase the temperature.
If the "normal" reads 150F, and someone says "You should be up around 200F for best performance", you have to ask "Well, where are you measuring the temperature?"

You can set alarms and such it the temp exceeds a certain point.
You can see how the temp changes based on fuel and atmospheric changes.

But, you cannot really say "My motor runs at this temp, and yours should too" because it always depends on where the probe is mounted.

BTW: My YS 120SR-X runs at 250F and my YS 60SR runs at 225F
Which means nothing in your case.
My temp probe is not mounted in the same place as yours will be.

Thank for many useful tips

I will place it on the lowest of the fins on the head, since I think this will pick up the heat variations best..

I'll let know how it goes
