Haven't flown helis since early 80's and am finding I remember almost NOTHING!
The sim videos are a huge help. I have Realflight G-5, two 450's and a 500 under construction. Thank you. Jim |

YOU CANT GET A REAL PILOTS LICENSE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO AUTO.....
Why do people think they can get by in the hobby otherwise? Bob

Me too! Still have not got it down with 100% confidence! Also this is not something you can really teach with a sim recording or video. It's like learning to fly forward. Practice practice practice.... You have to gain what some call memory muscles and get to the point where your not thinking about it so hard. Get to that point on the sim before really going after it in real life or you might be buying more parts than you wanted to.

Again, another great service to the heli-community. YES the video is most worthwhile.
Thanks again, Bob!

Bob, even though it's way late for this post....I just had to chime in. Watched all the video's and here's my take.....Outstanding job.....please do more.
Anyone who is just getting into RC Heli's should watch & study these videos repeatedly and pay close attention to Bob's voice over. Especially if you have a fixed wing past. Bob is a very good pilot and he makes it look easy. Being an old dude myself, I entered the RC hobby in 1987 and began with fixed wing aircraft. I have logged many hours on many fixed wing aircraft and I can assure everone who is interested in learning how to fly Heli's that the change over from fixed wing to Heli's is exactly as Bob describes it in these video's. Fixed wing pilots (Myself included) will have much difficulty mastering the (Left hand - Mode 2) collective/yaw controls we all learned as throttle/rudder control. As Bob clearly points out in these video's, Helicopter flight dynamics are different than fixed wing aircraft thus demanding considerable input management from the (Left hand - Mode 2) collective/yaw controls. Watching and carefully studying these videos, you will learn how to properly manage the collective/yaw controls during various flight manuvers....with practice. Study these video's and carefully listen to Bob's voice over, followed by lot's and lot's of practice and you to can learn to fly any helicopter. Great job......Finless Best Regards, Heli-Fly |

Which simularor?
New guy here. Just started this spring self taught (all within my 12'x12'x8' kitchen) learning with the tiny Blades. mCX, mCX2, mSRX, 120SR and mCPX2 (and a bunch of $30 HK186 CX and HK190 FP micros). Have finally "got it" with the hovering and can now fly the mCPX2 without scaring myself to death. Being very careful and progressing slowly, I've not had any repairs to speak of (one set of 120SR blades) and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm currently building an HK450PRO (which will be my beater) and an Align 450 Sport 2 (which will eventually be my "glass slipper").
But I'm ready to start learning some more advanced maneuvers and the time has come to get a simulator. I have a DX8. I watched all these videos, but no mention was made of the sim program being used. Bottom line: Which simulator do you guys recommend? p.s. I'm too old and slow for 3D, but I would like to eventually do loops, rolls and autos. Also, I'd like to chime in and thank Bob for all the great videos! Jeff Roberson - AKA "ridgerunner" Salt Lake City UT |
