I don't think it's bearings. After watching the video I can hear how u think it might be but that's just the tail rotor and my iPhones bad sound recording lol. If you listen closely at the start you can hear a kind of high pitch glitching, that's the one I'm trying to sort out

if its definitely not bearings, then have you played with the timing of the motor? having it too high can damage it from what I understand, if it gets too hot the magnets can come unstuck from the side of the can

Dogga,

Over time the motor, ESC, batteries and wiring "wear" in an electronic sense. Small changes in the system may lead to these symptoms. Usually the change are so small that we never notice them over the life of our equipment. Sometimes though we find them if we happen to be operating near the "edge" of the motor/esc sweet spot.

The first test is to try a run up with a known fresh battery.

If the blipping happens only at certain RPMs and not others, then it may be that the ESC is "losing sync" with the motor. Sometimes you can get it to run smoother by changing the PWM and motor timing values in the ESC.

Try increasing the PWM rate by a small amount and do a test run up. If it stays the same or gets worse, try reducing the PWM. If there is still no improevement put it back to the value where you started. Then try changing the timing value that same way.

Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I checked all ESC settings and all were correct. I tried playing with timing and PWM but it's still the same strange!

What esc do you have? I've heard of stuttering and uneven speed at startup with certain ESCs and the front belt tension too tight.

With no load my motor also hesitates a bit. I also tried various settings in the esc and it did help with the spool up. Very smooth spool up with blades though (no matter what) and no signs of blipping in flight. Does it the blipping for a whole pack or just initially?

I dont hear the blipping your talking about. If its the intermittent rattling your talking about, i think its a bearing somewhere, Both my mini's onlygive a "Whooosh" sound from the geartrain.

If you remove the belt from the pinion, how does it sound then?

Thanks guys I'll try replacing the motor shaft bearing. If that doesn't work I'll take the belt off and see if it still sounds the same. Will post the results. Fingers crossed

Thanks to all of you who suggested bearings, even though I was adamant it wasn't a bearing. I tried spinning motor by hand and heard nothing out of the ordinary (bearing making any noise etc). But I pulled out the Y support and replaced that beating as well as pulled off the pinion and replaced the 2 bearings in there. The old bearings all looked fine and made no crunching noises etc. anyway with the new bearings I spoiled up and it's as smooth as silk now!

Thanks heaps guys. This forum yet again helped me out
