What's the diameter of the motor shaft? Is it a normal 3.17mm? In all of the pictures it looks larger.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I have a 2500Kv motor on my 450 Pro for running 4s that I could use on the Mini (who would want to fly a Pro if they have a Mini?). On the other hand, for the cost difference on the bare bones v. motor+esc combo you get a really good deal on a Scorpion motor and YGE ESC, so it probably makes the most sense to just go with the combo and keep my Pro flight ready until crash parts become readily available for the Mini.

Not quite! European ESC´s (Kontronik, YGE) work best at 55-75% throttle opening. The reason for this is that they have enough room for governing and thus delivering a constant head-speed from beginning to the end of a flight.......

True, but I still don't think it'd be a good idea. That's way more overhead than you would possibly want. Way more than I ever needed with my 425mm Protos / Jazz combo!
