Default Hitec 5084MG Tail Servo

Anyone else out there using a Hitec 5084MG Tail Servo on their 500?

I just received a Futaba 9257 but still have the 5084 installed.

Thinking about it, the 5084 is rated to 6volts and is a faster servo. just not quite the torque of the 9257.

Any thoughts? Which would be the better tail servo out of the two

I'm starting to lean towards the 5084. I need some time to compare the two or hear from other 5084 users.

Well, the 5084 is faster, lighter and in my humble opinion a better servo than the 9257.

I'm going to stick with the 5084 and run it at 6 volts without the need or hassel of a stepdown if I used the 9257.

Let us know how it works out.....low torque might be an issue and Blow out the tail

have you flown it yet.....?

Hi Sircrashalott,

So far, just hovers and a few circuits. Holds well, but haven't tried any 3D or crazy flying.

I quite like it. (maybe I'm just too lazy to be bothered buying and fitting a stepdown)

Cheers,

Minskie

Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The Spartan servo chart rates the 5084 over the 9257

You can call me a noob, but I would say not enough torque to use these for cyclic, these are made to be a heli tail-servo

The 5084 is not reliable. Ive burnt one after about only 10 flights. My friend has toasted three. Im back to using the trusty 9257.

Could you be more specific, when you say "burnt out". I think I may have burnt out mine, it is getting very hot then becomes sluggish. It just started happening for no apparent reason.

Default DON'T run the HSG-5084MG at 6V!!!

I spoke with Hitech the other day regarding the 84MG being run at 6V and they said that 5 1/2V is OK but 6V is too much. It seems that everyone that is running this servo at 6V is eventually burning them up. Either run them at 4.8V or get a 5V BEC and you should be fine. Hope this helps.
