Default Universal Digital Input (UDI)

Hi,

Came across the Universal Digital Output when configuring my Rsat2.

Selected this instead of PPM.. and did the same over at the VBAR program..

However the VBAR is not seeing any TX inputs at all..Working fine when I set it back to PPM..

May I know whether the Jeti UDI setting can work with VBAR?

Anyone can advise?

You need new software for Jeti receivers, will be out next week. UDi will be EXT port and telemetry last channel, example r3 will have telemetry at #3

Talk to Jeti today, looks like end of this week for our testing and early next week for official release. The UDI + telemetry works fine, PPM + Servos is being finished.

Is the R3 the new satellite?
So I just get one of them for each of my heli's, use UDI and I am done?
When will they be available?
I was hoping to make my JETI DS-16 and all components required order on black Friday, hopefully with some discounts...

The RSat3 is the new US certified satellite, for us in Australia the RSat2 works just as well but is cheaper so is still a good choice for a heli. The 3 is being held up by the certification process in the US so not sure when it will be available for sale, maybe you can talk to the guys at Esprit and see if they will sell them to you as the FCC certification doesn't matter for use here. The only other practical difference is the RSat3 has some additional outputs that will be able to drive servos while using the Single line output with the new firmware, nice for scale but not really needed otherwise.

The new software for the UDI is waiting for some additional features it seems but should be released soon, in the meantime you can setup and fly with PPM anyway and just load the new Firmware when it is available and change the input method to the Brain. Worst case you may need to play with the channel assignments and redo the endpoints but you won't need to do anything else. So yes, just one RSat2 or 3 per model, plug in the single line and you are done. Make sure you check out the JLog for your Kontronik ESC's as they will plug into the telemetry of the Jeti and let you set alarms and logging for current, capacity, temp, etc.

Thanks Dennis.
There are not many rsat2's in stock ATM, hope they are not being phased out, I was going to get 10.
In the vid for the r3, he says it has very limited range.
And I'm already onto some jlog2.5's for my kosmiks.

I asked about the RSat2 and they will still carry it if I remember correctly. I would like to get a few more as well but found only 1 in stock when I looked earlier today so not worth it, even with the 10% off. The RSat3 is full range, so no issue there, like I said, would be worth an email to them to see if they can sell you the 3's if you are in a hurry as I think they have them in stock, just waiting for the FCC paperwork to be finalised before they can ship them in the U.S.

The R3 I think is still also waiting for the full testing of the software by Esprit or who ever is doing it. So even if you had them you won't be able to use them yet till the new software is finalized. According to Zb on the RcGroup forum it should be an other week (or so).
It is a waiting game but don't shoot the messenger. If waiting is a pain go over to the Avant forum and have a look there, not pretty

LOL! I don't know about others, but how someone else feels about a product that I have zero interest in has no impact on my mood.

I am looking forward to the R3's release, and I hope I can find someone interested in my R9 and R7's when that happens, but not until I've replaced them. In the mean time they are bulky but work fine.

So what's the advantage of UDI over PPM? I am a new DS-16 owner, been flying JR/Spektrum radios previously.

The way I understand it, UDI is theorically faster because it is digital every signal are sent at once. PPM is one signal after the other or one group after the other. But who will notice?

UDI should be more noise resistant, lower latency and a higher speed link compared to PPM.

Is there any technical info on UDI available? Googling around leads me to VBar/Mikado, but no details on what it is.

From what I have read it is owned by Mikado and made available to Tx manufacturers under NDA, so I guess you won't find much in the way of details on it. On JR radios it is know as X-Bus mode B or V-Bar mode.
