I went straight for a Jive HV 120 for my new 700. If it explodes, I'm just gonna go get piss drunk for a few days straight.

Just an FYI, be careful with the Hobbyking 120's. I'm seeing reports of fires with those.

Isnt the 200$ esc killing the whole helicopter,if there was a contest for the worst collateral damage due to a catastrophic failure,Castle would take first prize for sure.

I would rather have a burnt esc then be stuck with a $600 heli jive and a set of servos that dont work anymore personally

You know. There are risks with any hobby you take on. Some more than others. Thats what AMA insurance is for.

Its hard to imagine that anyone knows 100% for sure that that accident was totally Castle's fault.

There could be other causes that could be rated pilot error. Not saying it is. But, could be.

Hello,

I recently smoked an ICE 75 (no HV). It was really oversized since i was pulling 41A at full pitch (i checked on a saved log this morning). Around 25-30 flights without troubles. This last time i powered the ESC, moved the heli to the take of zone and started the motor with the radio switch. The rotor did'nt do more than 45° with an abnormal motor behaviour. I switched of the motor after only max 2 secondes and huge smoke was coming out of the heli. I disconnected the ESC by pulling on the red wire as fast as i could (scale heli with low accessibility) and it stayed in my hand, unsoldered from the ESC! I use 5S batts on this ESC made for up to 8S.

So not only HV version burn... If this was happening in flight i would have destroyed a nice Hirobo scale heli with a lot of work done on it. Unacceptable. I never had a fried ESC in my life.

Well if you were running 8S the ESC would have lived. But 5S. I'm not surprised you had ESC trouble. Just saying. Don't mean to be mean.

You do have to be careful of manufacturer ratings on ESCs based on my experience with the CC 100A ESC that I owned. The older CC 100 (non ICE and non HV) that I tried using for a trex 600 a few years ago was getting pretty hot. I was bursting to 100 and averaging somewhere in the 30s as I recall. The specs showed 6s and 100A but I found out from CC that it was not really rated to 100A at 6s even though that is what the specs show. The mentioned it was only rated at 100A with lower cell counts.

This doesn't seem overtaxed at all though 5s and 41 amps max surge is way under the rating of the ESC. I assume he was way under that on average. At 41 amps though he is way under the advertised spec of 75A. Going 8s would reduce the amps more but at 41 burst I don't see how you would say 5s is the problem.

True that. I might have jumped to conclusions on that one. But a scale 30 size electric maxing at 41 amps? Also the castle logging is not the most accurate. I had a ice 75 on my logo 400 (430mm) blades and it was very reliable. Moved it to a logo 500 using 550mm blades and 8s and it lasted a month. No fire, just quit on me mid flight. Using a ice 100 now.

I think with castle you need to really be careful.
