Default Hot Tail Servo

What would cause a hot tail servo. After 4 flights the tail servo was almost too hot to touch! I upgraded it to a Hitec 5084MG and I'm running it at 6V.

I checked the linkage for binding and it wasn't bad. I did tweak it a little to get better alignment.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

What frequency are you running it? My 5084mg always ran a bit on the warm side but never really hot hot.

Yes, as vtown nick said, did you set the beast x for the proper frequency?

I can't back it up with any hard evidence since I've never used Hitec servos in a heli. But I seem to recall this being an issue with Hitec servos in the past. That is, running them at the high end of their rated specs is actually pushing the limits. Like everyone has alluded to, try backing off on the frequency.

I thought I had setup the right frequency (it's hard to find that info). I'll double check. Maybe I'll just turn it down one setting and try that.

There was always a question whether running the 5084 on 6V was a bad idea (or not). There is an old long thread on that in the Hitec sub forum on servos. Just go there and type 5084 into the search and it should pop right up.

I think if you have a nice smooth tail (under load) with relatively low vibrations, the 5084 won't be overworked at 6V. You know of course it will run hotter at 6V than 5.5 or 5.0V with the same loading.

But if you have a binding tail, or if the vibrations are high causing the tail gyro to send out lots of corrections to the tail servo, then it can get real hot. You really don't want to overheat a servo.

According to BeastX the 5084 should be run at 333hz 1520us.
