Default which Align 700?

Hello All,
I am saving for a 700 size and my first electric. Align seems to be the brand I will go with and am just wondering which 700 to go with. I have seen a few combo's available, but I don't know enough about the Electronics to know which one is the correct one for me. I am a sport flyer ( I like scale)

Any help you can offer, would be greatly appreciated

Nate

Default RH70E35XW

Get either the RH70E35XW with HW160A or the RH70E35AW with the 200A HW ESC.

Stuff like servo's and FBL are all the same no matter which kit you get

Thanks Other than the ESC there seems to be no difference... am I missing something?

Also.. why would the RH70E35XW (200A ESC) be $170 cheaper?

The AW is the one with a 200A ESC, the XW has the 160A.
Both combo's are identical except ESC.

Go for the 160A and spend the $170 on lipo's

IMHO unless you are an extremely hard flyer i would just go for the version with the Align 130A ESC ( RH70E23XT ).
This ESC is a re-branded Hobbywing 130A and as ample unless you are the hardest of hardcore 3D flyers. I've had one since first rel;ease of the 700X and it's been flawless. I use the same 130A ESC on another two helis also. As well as saving quite a bit of money you also save about 80 to 200g in weight compared to other options.
I'd definitely avoid the version with the Castle ESC because it has no inbuilt BEC so you either then need to add an BEC or a seperate Rx pack, both of which add weight and 'clutter'.
Hydros27 likes this.

Here prices are all pretty close if you are comparing the same product. Just buy from the cheapest reputable dealer.

Like I said in the last reply, for the type of flying you want to do the standard super combo with the 130A ESC is more than enough, paying more for a higher rated ESC that you dont need would be pointless

I'm still flying the 700L Dominator line. Love them, and easy to find parts.

I was told that if it wasn't for the desert high temps that Ben Storick would fly the Align 130A ESC. The high temps cause the 130A to thermal overload when pushing his helis in the heat, but during cooler temp days he would fly all day long.

take a look at Aligntrexstore.com to buy.

Also, consider taking the option of no FBL controller and get that separately. The BeastX they would otherwise include is ok and flies fine but is not cost effective if you want Rescue. They charge an extra $100 for a firmware upgrade plus you need the USB interface (another $30) to upgrade the firmware. Current FBL favorites are ICON and Spirit.

Personally I like Spirit as they have reliable rescue, comes with cable for software, has WIFI adapter available for about $20, has full GPS module available for about $100. But all features other than GPS are included.

You are also going to need an ESC programmer. The Hobbywing LCD or their new WIFI one. The ESC comes from the factory in ELF gov mode. You are going to want it in Linear mode at first and then STO gov mode.

There is now also the Trex 700L V2, which is $350 cheaper. I fly it since two years without any problems, but I am not a 3D flyer.

For normal and sport flight the 700L V2 is perfect. For more advanced 3D flight I guess the 700x is better.

What are the major differences?

If you are buying new, it is probably a good idea to get the latest version of the kit. It is not so much about performance difference but Align has always continued to improve upon the design and parts. Other than changes to the included electronics, there are only small parts differences between each version but by buying the latest one, you are getting the best version possible and also the longest support window.

I can't list every change between the L and the X but one example is they changed the size of the screws in the Tail dog-bones from 2mm to 2.5 mm.

I see they now have a kit version "no electronics" and two version of the super combo.

If it were me, I'd get the less expensive combo, choose the no FBL option, and get a Spirit Pro.

Probably. I don't know anything about scale but I can tell you that at the events in my area (NorCal), if we get 40 pilots, there are only one or two with scale models. Scale is a niche of a niche so probably not much market to support businesses.

A few years ago, the Trex 600 ESP was the golden standard for the scale helicopters...
With RC Aerodine bringing in the early Roban fuselages in which the ESP fit perfectly...

But then it all changed... when Roban came up with their own scale mechanics...

and then Goblin mechanics were first adopted to fit the scale fuselages...
and so forth...

Yes scale helicopters are a tight niche and scalerchelicopters is one of the last forts for "those that like to spend years building and are then too afraid to fly"...

Klem

PS don't ask how I know...
