Default Small problems; CF Gyro Tray mounting bolts and swashdriver arm play

Bought a nice new CF Gyro tray; http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBYDX&P=Z

Looks great and probably stiffens up the frames a tiny bit.

Only one small problem, the countersunk bolts included to attach the plate to the cnc spacers are 2.5M bolts and the threaded holes on the spacers are smaller, 2M. I did not have any coutersunk 2M bolts in stock so I just drilled and tapped them out to 2.5M no problem, but they should have been right to begin with.

Also, I noticed a little side-play on both my swashdriver arms, where they bolt onto the head block. The play is pretty small so it might not really be that important? The arms themselves move very freely even when I hold them over to each end-of-play. The play seems to caused by the bearings being a little smaller than the arm driver bearing mounts. Anyone else noticed this?

Cheers,
TomC

Also, needed to use a dremel tool to widen the countersink hole on the CF gyro plate so the screws would fit flush to the top of it. No big deal, just a small pita.

First maiden flight yesterday went very well btw. Very smooth and surprisingly quiet. Think I'm going to love this heli!

I agree this heli is sweet!! I love mine and it is only setup on 8s! Very quiet and smooth...only gripe I have is the play in the main blade grips drives me nuts!!!

My grips do not have any play right now. If they develop some I'd probably just add shims.

Cheers,
TomC

Just a quick update.

I removed the swash driver arms from the headblock, ground down the bearing sleeve/insert a tiny bit with a dremel, applied a tiny bit of locktite to the inner bearings, slipped the sleeve back in, applied a little locktite to the inside of the sleeve and headblock screwhole, and tightened it all up. Now there is zero side-slop, yet the arms are still nice and loose (fall on their own weight).

I also did this same proceedure with my front right pitch lever that also had a bit of side-slop and this has fixed that as well.

Now I just need to remove the slight up/down maingrip slop (caused by the main grip bearing holes being a little oversized imho) by either adding a shim or gluing in the main grip bearings with a bit of locktite or ca.

Still loving this heli but I really think that TT needs to improve some of their tolerances.

Cheers,
TomC

Another quick update.

Used a tiny bit of med CA to glue the main grip bearings to the grips. After letting this set the up/down maingrip slop is gone! No add'n shims were required btw.

Cheers,
TomC

Ya, designed to be mounted in stock top/back position. Works ok for me. If you want to mount it elsewhere, within the frames, you would need to grind the cf tray edges down a few mm's in order to fit (30mm total, and be careful that you take the same mm's off both sides).

TomC
