Align DS415M & DS425M Hz
Does anyone know if the Hz needs to be changed on the GT5.1 for Align DS415M swash and DS425M tail servos. I put these in after the great ACE servos it came with stripped.
Another question is I have to change the subtrim in the GT5 to +34 on one of the servos to center it. I read somewhere not to go over ><4 on the subtrim. ? Thanks in advance for any replies! |

415 = 65hz
425 = 333hz Do you have any servo horns that you can play with? The splines are positioned that there will be a best side for your 90 degree position.

Thank you for the reply!
I only have four horns that came with the servos that are the correct distance (they are single arm) to keep the control arms level and they must all be indexed pretty much the same because I get the same positioning on the one I added subtrim to. The four cross arm horns are too short. I've got it down to +20 with it very close to 90 degrees. I tried running the tail at 333 but it gets HOT so I dialed it down to 200 which is where the cyclic servos are set and they are cool to the touch, (200hz is Align's # for the DS415M in the swash position the old DS410 was 65) Out the box the GT5 in my E325s was set at 165 across the board. Please let me know what issues you perceive by doing that. Question: What is the CORRECT procedure for leveling the swash on the E325S. I have them close with the linkage and need to know if I should use the subtrim in the Tx for this or will the GT5 compensate? The other thing I notice is that unless the pitch curve is at 50% the elevator servo will not keep it level. Is that normal? Please excuse what may be obvious questions to some but I am completely new to heli's. I've been flying planes for sometime but have never set up a heli before. It's a shame the ACE servos are so weak, I think I would have stripped them in a foamy. Maybe I got four bad ones ... Thanks! |

Wont Head Lock
I just maiden-ed the heli with the new servos and it swings hard to the right. It's like the gyro won't lock the head? On the bench everything is centered and the gyro follows the tail back and forth.
Any ideas? Last edited by ovrclkd; 03-03-2013 at 02:19 PM.. Reason: Title Added |

So its the tail that swings to the right? Does it keep piroetting?
About the elevator servo, is that in setup mode or not?

Yes initially I believe the tail pirouettes to the right. Not right away but as soon as it gets light on the skids.
I noticed the tail servo will not go back to center after that happens or while moving the stick hard over back and forth. I have to move the tail (rudder) stick a little past center to get the servo back to neutral. Am I making sense? One more thing, if I move the stick to the left it will continue to piro in that direction. Man I wish the stock servos were decent, I would just put them in and be done. If you have any influence with TT tell them to bite the bullet and upgrade the electronics. (Except for the GT5 of course). I'm getting very good at double tapping! |

I'm not sure, but my guess would be that your piroette rate is too high. Thats kind of hard to verify without actually taking off though. Other then that it seems like normal HH behaviour.

Thanks but I think you misunderstood the rate the E325 piro's.
It spins around at the blink of an eye when this happens. If I got it off the ground it would be spinning in a circle three times a second. I'm going back into the menu tonite to check the parameters. The only thing I changed were one subtrim to center the left aileron, the servo speeds so the GT5 sees a 45 degree servo and the frequencies. BTW, I did change the tail servo back to 333 to see if the helped but its the same. Thank you for all your replies and help. I DO APPRECIATE IT !!!! Jay R. |

Then it seems like you reversed the correction, so it'll spin as fast as it can. If you move the nose to the left, which way do the leading edge of your tailblades go? It should be to the left too if your tail is on the right side and its rotating counterclockwise.

Ok after further investigation the tail servo moves backwards instead of towards the nose when rotating the Heli counter clockwise.
I tried reversing the direction in the piro menu but it doesn't change anything and the swash moves in piro test mode whether its set to norm or reverse. The servo travels correctly with the radio just not the GT5? I'm stumped!!!! |

BTW, I checked EVERY parameter in the GT5 against the E325S manual settings and they all match. (except of course for the one servo sub-trim which I needed to change to get it at 90 and that was Aileron 1. |

I GOT IT !!!!
You need to change the Gain Direction for the Gyro tail sensor in the directional menu under rudder. Ok ..... time to maiden after the wind drops below 20 mph!
Thanks for helping Laurens .... make a note in case this comes up again! |

Good to hear this . Let us know how the maiden flight went.

Maiden and Additional Adjustments
Ok, the maiden went very well and the GT5 locked like it did with the OEM ACE servos.
While bench testing I found the aileron & elevator need to reversed as well. Here is what needs to be done to marry the Align DS415M & DS425M servos with the GT5.1 Gyro on the Mini Titan E325S. In the Gain Directional Menu: Rudder = REV Elevator = REV Aileron = REV In the Servo Frequency Menu: (based on Align's specs) 1 = 200 2 = 200 3 = 200 Tail =333 I hope this helps anyone upgrading to Align's (Savox). If I incur any future problems with the tail at 333hz I will update this but I feel the reason it got hot initially was the fact it was constantly fighting to work the correct way. It remained pretty cool to the touch today. These are the settings that worked for me on the E325S. YMMV |
