can anyone help when i turn the engine over in my velo 50 it makes a weird scratching noise
what could it be i have checked everything the problem still stays but when turned over by hand there is no noise i am stumped can anyone help.

is the engine making the noise or is the noise coming from outside the engine?

spin the clutch bell, I've heard that noise when the engine is too high. top of the clutch rubbing the inside top of the bell. otherwise maybe a slipping oneway bearing in the clutch?

I have had this happen twice to me.
Once when I did not have the clutch bell assembly lined up correctly with the motor.
The second time was after getting a new clutch, it had a bad one way bearing in it and made all kinds of noise no matter what I did for alignment. Had to put in a new bearing and it works great now..

i have spun the clutch bell and cant hear anything its not the engine as i stripped it down before i fitted it and there was nothing wrong with it . i am gonna take it apart and check the oneway bearing again.

Yup, one way bearing.

Had to change both of mine now on the Velo, not impressed at all.

check it over and yes yet again the oneway bearing had gone again so i have changed it and the noise has gone

are you, or how are you, lubricating the clutch OWB? What starter and engine do you have? I had an Align starter and a KME 60 that was torching OWB's in the clutch, that starter spun too slow to handle the compression cycle (load-unload...) Once I switched to a stronger starter it no longer "hammered" the bearing.

i am using tri flow grease and i am also using an align starter i the engine i have init is a ys 50

I have the same heli and motor combo. I had what I believe is the same sound you are describing. It eventually got worse and I found that my main bearing in the engine was the problem.

Engine bearings
Fan in the shroud, or shroud alignment
Clutch bell alignment
One-way bearing
Gear mesh/alignment

Those should be your typical culprits for noise in that area.

You will fint the starter shaft is a little to tight in one way , picks the bearing up and makes it scream, Check to see the clutch is free when turning shaft, I turned my starter shaft down a size so that when its located in the one way it has a little play, aka Trex 600. Outrage say the "new one way" sorts it but thats a load of tosh as the part number on the bearing shell is the same, its just that the starter shaft is a little over size for that bearing, Nice heli just needs the odd tweek.
