Should I remove the idle pulley ???

Screw belts all together!!! TT is the way to go and I don't understand how everyone complains how a breeze in the wrong direction will break the TT gears... not true! Belts suck with or without the idler pulley per my experience. In reference to the subject matter of the thread, I have tried with and without the pulley without any noticeable difference.

I ran with the idler in my Trex 450 for months, then all of a sudden I found the belt climbing up the side of the tail pulley. I tried retensioning and silicone spray but it kept doing it. Changed the belt and it was OK for 2 flights, then same problem. Took the idler off last month and haven't had a ptoblem since.

No idlers for me from now on!

yea. I ran mine despite reading this thread months ago. (I said to myself, an engineer created this machine and put it there for a reason.) The belt started turning silver and the belt snapped on about the 40-50th pack. The idler bearing/ pulley is now gone. It dosen't feel 'bad' when it's spun by hand though like other bearings on this machine can. I noticed fraying and graying after about 10 packs and disregarded it (don't disregard the fraying or i believe it can lead to belt failure!) I'm on about the 15-20th pack w/ this belt now and don't see any fraying or fatigue signs. It's silicone lubed now also. Guess it is bad to keep installed after all. Oh well.

belts expand under high rpm just like tires they are made from rubber the idler pulley keeps the belt in contact with the tail pulley...... correct belt tension is also important
my set up i still use idler pulley is it rite or wrong it works and thats all i have to know i did try without idle pulley and belt kept slipping on tail shaft

I went through a bunch of stock belts rapidly, teh first one was old and shredded itself. The second I probably didnt retension after breakin and it shredded. The 3rd snapped on a test flight post crash and after tightening it up, but it wasnt missing a tooth, snapped. And then another went bad, with missing teeth. Most of this was probably crash related except the snapped one.
I got a tech mp orange belt and when i spin my rotors by hand it goes about 4-5 spins. Way more than the align belts. Ill report If I shred this one too.

if you keep shreding belts maybe its the pulley has a burr on it or sharp edge or just to tite

2nd. on what dude said. I found I had a tail rotor shaft & pulley that had a wobble when spun by hand. The shaft was streight, but the pulley diden't spin true. Worth looking at

50 flights on my HK450 tail - no problem with the shoulder roller.
Belt can't go anywheres. I replace the stock roller with a shoulder roller.

I had my belt slip off and had the perfect tension. I replaced it with a blade 400 pulley than has chamfered edges to stop this.

So far, I've no problem for mine with the tensioner on , but seems like sooooo many pilots compliant about theirs. I have limited experience about helis, but fully agreed to what Dumb Thumbs had posted "the 250 don't need one, the 500 don't need one... Why does the 450 need one?" , I still feel running one with the tensioner can avoid belt jump or tighten up the tension. Is that true ?

At least on a CopterX V2 tail, you don't have to take the box apart, it has spacers up to the bearings in the idler rather then being molded in. Pull the screw and see-ya

I've had three minor crashes with the belt slipping off and wedging against the tail assembly frame,, kill the tensioner for sure, it is about as usefull as,,,,, u get the point.

I use silicone spray on the belt only.

Good decision, there are lots of reported problems with the older Trex SE V2 idler pulley.
FWIW, the CopterX AE/SE V2 idler pulley system is designed differently and has been working flawlessly, on my heli, for over 525 flights.

Imagine this- you are flying and your tail boom loosens up in mid flight, slides forward thus loosening the belt: with the pulley in place the belt is forced to make contact with the rotor pulley. Without the IDLER pulley in place-well you get the picture. Your call, your machine, your money. They make more silicone! Should I remove my blinker switch in my car- Nobody uses them anymore. Do they???
