Default Trex 600N headspeed

I tached my heli today for the first time. Yesterday I was running what felt good and it was flying great. Lots of pop and no bogging even when do a big FAI style loop from almost a dead hover.

Today I set the RPM at 2150 (with a rev limiter) and man did that thing suck. It still flew alright obviously it just didn't have nearly the response I'm used to. I switched the limiter off and it was flying much better. I didn't get to tach it at that setting though because the one-way bearing in my auto gear failed (during stationary rolls!) and I had to auto it - hopefully the shaft run didn't hurt my engine. I didn't hit the throttle hold because I didn't entirely realize what was going on. It just started screaming and the rotor speed started dropping. I was only maybe 15 feet off the ground. I'll be mighty sad if my engine is hosed.

Anyway, what does everyone else run? I have to guess I was running somewhere between 2200 - 2300. Obviously, I'm not sure of that.l

2150-2200 is the "standard" maximum rpm for the 600N if you go by gear ratio and the engine's powerband... I was running 2150 or so.

I'm running 2000 and will probably be bumping that up around 2100-2150 after having practiced a lot of backflips this weekend (the only trick I'm capable of doing at the moment). At 2000, it was a bit sluggish.

It may not be all headspeed. How sure are you of your engine tuning?

What paddles are you using?

Yeah, I probably do need to graduate to better paddles now that I'm trying more complicated maneuvers. I'm still running stock.

I suspect I was also running plenty rich, which was causing the head to bog more than it would if the engine were tuned right. I'd rather run a little rich than to run lean and damage the engine.

Super Stubz will be a LOT quicker than the stockers.

Beware, they do make the heli a bit pitchy in FFF. Gotta stay on top of it, occasionally it wants to pitch off in some odd direction. It's manageable, just gotta pay attention.

Align 3mm carbons, they have been the best combo with the Rotortech 610's

2150-2200 HS on the T600N you guys must be doing some seriously heavy 3D to need that HS. Guys round here (not me the good guys) run maybe 2100 and put the machine through it all.
