No modding used engines?
Hi. I just checked the TRM website. It says as of Oct 20 2008, no more modifications on used engines.
What's changed? Something besides the "Bobs" situation I hope. Most people are not like that. Have used engines in general not been worth it for Toxic? In my opinion, a slightly used engine, just out of warranty, is a HUGE contender for the stage 1 mod. But the new policy wipes out this option. Instead you have to send in a brand new engine, voiding the Zenoah warranty. I know TRM has a great following and reputation, but this new policy has me turned away for now. How about a clause stating the used engine could be inspected, faulty/worn parts replaced, mods made, and no implied warranty would exist from Toxic for any used engine?

Hey Aaron
you wouldn't believe some of the stuff that gets sent in and how much extra time is involved in remediating the initial problems BEFORE doing any upgrades. and then even IF the "no warranty" clause is in place for a used motor, it makes customers unhappy if a problem arises. Al doesn't like unhappy customers and has gone the extra mile may times to prove that. once he's done with it, you won't find a better engine though

Aaron, the main reason I did that was because of a few reasons, some of the engines i received were old g2d'd ,old g23's and worn out engines and these i can do anything with. also the motors i did receive that i could work on some were damaged through overheating ,dirt or poor maintainence and with parts replacement approaching the price of a new motor it became a nightmare and it upset alot of people when i had to tell them. I'm expected to be responsible for not only what i have done but the motor as well and since I don't charge that much for the mods it has cost me more than what i charged for the mods to replace suspect parts from used engines.I am sorry if this policy offends you i am just trying cover my ass and keep people happy. I will do an engine used only in certain situations so call me if you want to talk to me about your motor. Peace, Al

Al,
It's not offensive. I understand you have to make money doing this. It's your occupation, not a hobby. It just got in the way of a plan I had. I have an old Zenoah 231, and when the warranty runs out, I was going to Toxic Mod Stage 1 it. But maybe my plan isn't ruined. From what I gathered if the engine is well cared for and in good condition you are willing to bargain case by case. That's all I could hope for. In any case, if I sent in a 2 year old engine, and you told me before you could mod it to produce more power than stock, it first needed 100 bucks in parts, I don't see how a reasonable person could get upset at that. Some people expect too much. Thanks for you answer.
