Default X-cell 60 Setup on New Futaba 8FG and 520 Gyro

Hey Guys, looking to talk to anyone who has setup and X-cell 60 with a Futaba 8FG TX and Futaba GY520 gyro. I am lifting my 15 year old setups from my 9Z, but would like to know anything that I may overlook. Rich

Here's where I am so far. I've mounted the gyro on a plate on top of the heli away from the engine. I've set everything up with the ciu interface and all functions properly except servo limits. At my first attempt to set the limits, the servo arm post was about 14mm from the center screw, and even at 50/50 limit settings the servo would still jam the linkage extremes on both sides. I've since moved the servo arm ball in to the next inside hole (about 11mm), set the limits to 60/90, and it's still jamming. I can recenter the servo by jiggling the stick around center.

My question is do I have to set the servo limits with the gyro in normal/rate mode first? Then switch back to AVCS mode? I'm using a new FG8 TX/rec. From previous posts I've seen it mentioned that you have to set up rate mode, hover and adjust the linkage for 0 drift. Then switch back to AVCS. Can I switch the gyro from one state to the other without using a TX switch? Is it practical to do this, since the instructions say that you shouln't switch modes during flight? Also, I understand that in normal/rate mode that I need to program in some P/R (REVO) mixing, right? This gyro seems great. I know this is just some precedure that I doing incorrectly. Thanks for helping at your convenience. Rich

I've not used a 520 , but all the futaba gyros I have , 611's etc , need to be set up in rate mode first. With the tail servo arm at 90 deg to the boom(in rate mode) , adjust the pushrod till the tail gearbox belcrank is also at 90 deg to the boom ie parallel to the tail gearcase, Adjust the tail travel limits , in the gyro, to just not bind ..

Use a switch on the radio , gear or Aux ( I'm a JR person !!) to switch between rate and HH mode , ie plug the gyro gain lead into the req'd Rx port , adjust the travel of that channel to set the rate/HH gain /...

You won't need a Revo mix, these gyros are amasing!!
