Turned CP2 off today and learned some lessons
I finally got my DX6i set up and got my switch working so I could turn CP2 off. I've been flying at 150%, but had auto trim turned on.
So, today, turned it off. Here's what I learned. It helped me a lot more than I thought. I didn't realize how it helped stop it. I also didn't realize how much it helped in the wind. Today was kind of windy, so I really had to fly it. I guess I didn't realize how little stick input I had been giving. I'm thankful to CP2 for helping me enjoy my heli earlier. It got me into FF quicker and the enjoyment and not fear was there. It's an awesome product. For those starting with it and heli's in general. Use it, get flying. Get oriented, then start turning it off. Don't fly forever with it on. Do yourself a favor and wean yourself off as quick as you can. Then use as an emergency recovery. After a few batteries, my confidence got closer to my Sim level and the heli flew smooth. I had started with my gyro at 27. Not enough!!! Wouldn't hold, so 33 did the trick. Anyway, CP2 is awesome, and it really helped me this summer. I look forward to having it save me multiple times. |

I know you've been posting frequently about CPII. I can't remember if you purchased the new Hard Deck Module or not? One of the advantages of using the Hard Deck Module is that, above the programmed altitude, it's all you with no stabilization to help (unless you change the default setting and apply Level Flight Mode above the Hard Deck). If you lose control and enter the Hard Deck, the Flight Mode "Level in H.Deck" kicks in and saves you REALLY FAST! So, I think this would give you the best of both worlds. Also, in order to run the Hard Deck Module, you have to upgrade the CPII Computer's firmware. The new 2.4x versions have improved Emergency Recovery that utilizes collective management to vastly improve the speed of recoveries. Also included is a new super-stabilization when you drop below the deck (after recovery) which is really useful to prevent you from over-controlling the heli "after you wet your pants".

I want to get it. It really is the way to go. No flipping a switch or anything.
It's on the list for this Christmas! |

CoPilot II HD as a bail out:
Quote:
Just a reminder, CPII HD recoveries can also be triggered manually as a bailout the same as Helicommand at any altitude or it can trigger on and off automatically if the switch is left in the Hard Deck Level in Flight mode. You as the pilot can make that decision anytime during a flight, manual or automatic depending on the position your remote switch is in. Have a great day flying,

CPII is not a FBL controller ,but can be used with most any non stabilized FBL controller providing you use a separate Rx.

No, CPII does not have a built in FBL system but does work with most existing FBL systems that use a separate Rx. CPII installs between the Rx and the FBL system.

F16chief is 100% CORRECT ! There is no reason for you to crash an RC Heli when you have the CPII installed!! I think very strongly that you you would be crazy NOT TO HAVE a CPII installed in your Heli. No one would want to learn how to fly a FULL SIZE Heli or Aircraft if they expected to have to crash a few time while learning ! And NO ONE would try to learn aerobatics in a full size aircraft without having a parachute on !! It just does not make sense why some one who fly's RC Heli's would not want a CPII installed on their Heli ! It works and it works perfectly every time !!!! FOR THE PRICE, I think the CPII is one of the best devices ever developed for RC HELICOPTERS !!!!!!!

Cool, good to know! Maybe I'll try it with the vbar or 750 some time. Was checking out the website and it is a pretty unique system.
