If you gotta ask you can't afford it

I gather the basic engine less ancilliary equipment runs like 3000 bucks. The airframe should just cost the same as any large model - self build probably 400 I'd guess. Adding radio starter pumps etc I'd guess your looking at maybe 4-5 grand for something fairly simple. Now if your talking 12+ foot Strategic Air Command Bomber you'd better re-motgage your house. Oh and If you crash it you'll need a small revolver and a quiet room to end the pain in a civilized manner :mrgreen:

If you are just looking for speed, I'd look into a Ritewing Wing. Chris has some great wings that have been clocked over 150 mph. Plus it is smaller than a jet, less stress than a jet, and can fit in just about any car! O and maybe 6 or 7 thousand less.

If you are going for the jet look, sorry can't help you there. There is a local guy here that has a couple and everytime I get a chance to watch him fly, I do. Now I'm waiting for my next time so I can bring out an electric wing that will at least kinda keep up with him.....Kinda.

Oh, and to have AMA insurance coverage, you need a turbine waiver.

When I got to fly Soviet fighters in Ukraine, it had been over 10 years since I had flown military aircraft. First aircraft that taxied out, I walked out and stood behind just for the smell of burnt kerosene. I LOVE that smell.

And my Win startup sound is an A-10 APU startup.

hehe, I do that on the ramp when I go fly helis. If any turbine ship is starting up, I go stand behind it to get permeated by that smell...

i saw an F-18 fly at markham park yesterday and ther is NOTHING that can beat the sound of a turbine spooling up or shutting down. that long turbine whine gives me chills.

Wow, I used to park at the end of the runway at Lindbergh Field, just to let the exhaust from the airliners wash over me as they ran up for takeoff. I thought I was the only one that was into that.

If you ever visit the Naval Aviatio \n Museum in Pensacola, FL (AWESOME museum) they have a line of souvenir stuff (T-shirts, mugs, etc) that read:

"I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning."

Wow!! I haven't been to Markham in years!! I used to watch the jets all the time when I flew out there. They are cool, but my problem is if I owned one, while flying all I would be thinking about is $$$$. LOL!!!

some of the most popular kits are made by BVM these are high quality. you can check them out at www.bvmjets.com I know only one guy that has them he has 1 of their designs and a scale f18 i think. but to give an idea about cost this guy keeps tham in his shop next to his ferraris.

oh yea and the coolest thing i think i've ever seen in r/c was a video a freind took at a fly in in south carolina. this guy from over in europe somewhere was hovering a jet and doing crazy 3d. i didn't think that jets could do that.

Come live in Japan. We still use kerosene heaters... I personally hate the smell! lol

Or you can live on or near a MCAS for many years and learn to hate the noise of F18s and AV8s. I'm still partial to the old F-4 though.

I personally love the sound of a Merlin. Now if I can just get my models to sound like one...

That was one of my favorite things in the Army, the M1 tanks spooling up. In the winter the buck privates would always stand too close to the arse end of the M1 and all their plastic stuff would melt. I saw a private get shrink-wrapped in his wet weather gear one time at the wash rack. When we cross-trained on the M1, you could not make the *insert hardened body part here* go away after driving that thing. Nothing like 1500 shaft horsepower pushing 60+ tons, a real rush....
