3S 2200mah 30C minimum. Get a 10T, 11T, and 12T pinion. One of those will work for you whether you use regular throttle curves or a governor.

I used the -6 motor in my T-Rex 450, had great power, but flight time was limited to 4min 30sec.

Good luck!

Depends upon the weight. You need to consider fore/aft CG when choosing a battery.

A smaller battery will be lighter, but have room to move forward on the battery tray in order to properly balance the model. However, it can only move forward to the extent that the canopy will allow.

A larger batter will be heavier, and won't have as much room to move around on the tray for proper balance. If you use too large a battery, you'll end up with a heli that's nose-heavy.

Also, for different batteries of the same capacity but one has a higher C (discharge) rating, that one will generally be heavier. For example, a 25C battery will be lighter than a 45C battery. If you do this comparison with Thunder Power 3S 2700mah packs, the 45C battery is more than one ounce heavier. That weight makes a lot of difference when place on the nose of the heli.

This is what is listed in the manual which I'm going to try to follow unless I hear any recommendations to other items.

Motor: Scoripion HKII-2221-8 (thinking about a -6)
ESC: Scoripion Commander 15v 60A SBEC ESCv3 (for the -6)
Gyro: GY401 w/ Futabu 59257 Servo
Cyclic Servos: Futaba S3156's
Battery is calling for a 3 cell 2500mah. (brand unsure)
any ideas on a good receiver? the one that is listed is a Futaba R617FS

What transmitter are you using? Spektrum, Futaba? The Spektrum AR6100/6110 series works just fine. The AR6200 is nice if you like a hard case and a satellite receiver.

Unless you are doing HARD 3D, skip the -6 and do the -8.

Skip on the commander ESC and get something different. I run an Align 35A on mine and it works perfectly. Castle Ice 50 is another ESC I like.

The GY401 is a little dated but a great gyro. A lot of people prefer something newer like the Spartan DS760 or Quark.

The 9257 is a great servo. I have that on mine too. Lately I have been using Hitec servos and am having good luck with the 5084MG which can be run on 6V so there is no need for a step down regulator or running your BEC at 5.1V slowing down your cyclics.

I have no experience with the cyclics you mentioned. I use a lot of Hitec servos on cyclic. HS65MG servos work really well. I run those on mine. If you want digitals, the HS5065MG servos would be a great option.

I run 2200mAh 3S batteries in mine. 2500mAh might be a bit heavy.

RX depends on your radio. I run Spektrum / JR and use AR61XX RXs on all my 450s

Hitec 5065 cyclic
Futaba 9257 tail
Spartan Quark
Scopion 8 13T on 3s 2200mah
Phoenix 45
Spektrum 6100e

The 5065's a little fast for my flying style (sport) but were easy enough to dumb down a little. With my setup, it's a little nose heavy (ESC up front, Rx in back, gyro under boom block). I also use the cheapo batteries (Turnigy, Flightmax etc.). I am currently getting about 5 min. of semi aggressive sport flying using about 1500-1600mah governed at 2900 rpm.

Bigger packs than 3s 2200 might not fit under the canopy? ... not sure but check. I haven't purchased packs for my 450 for over a year.

5065s are what I use and they are great, but they break gears almost on every crash. I've read but I'm no expert that they are very precise and don't want to give a bit and that makes them more prone to shredding gears... Please someone correct me if I'm wrong

It's strange you are stripping gears so easily. I've crashed mine a lot and haven't striped them once. I usually break my servo arms though.

Gyro: Spartan Quark

Cyclic Servo(s): Hitec HS-5065

Tail Servo: Futaba S9257

Make sure to get a pinion or two for the motor. 13T should do great. 14T and 15T would also be nice to have on hand in case you want to run a higher governed head speed.

Also, the AR8000 is a large receiver for this small heli. The park flyer receivers are sized more appropriately.

if not the AR-8000 then what would you recommend? only reason why I chose it is because it is the one that comes with dx8 transmitter combo.

The AR61XX series receivers are perfect for the 450-sized helis. There are end-pin and top-pin versions to choose from depending upon where you're going mount it, how you're going to route the servo wires, etc.

There is also an AR6200 that comes with a satellite receiver if you prefer having a satellite.

Here's a pic of mine with the AR6100.

Can anyone recommend a tail servo that can run on 6v? It seems the 9257 doesnt like 6v. Also would it hurt to get a 80a Titan esc? (the bec is 6v)

Mine is rated and running at 6V. Hi-tec HSG-5084MG.

It and the Quark are holding great in fast backwards (upright and inverted hurricanes), tail slides, etc.

Thanks! thats prolly what I will go with then.

any input on the esc? it seems like a 80A esc is a little crazy but the 50 doesn't put out 6v. guess it cant hurt right?

Thanks to everyone who has chimed in, it has helped lots and lots.

An 80A ESC would be extreme overkill. My Castle ICE Lite 50 has adjustable BEC output via the Castle Link software, and I have it set at 6.0V.

Are you saying your 50A ESC is not 6V but the 80A is? Maybe just buy an external BEC that is either adjustable or one that outputs 6V. Should be a cheaper and lighter route than jumping to an 80A ESC.
