Question New update coming soon??

I heard a rumor a while back of a great update coming for the Skookum line? Any timeline?

Now the flying season is HERE and it has been since October for the last update... and I'm itching to update... I just can't seem to get my Goblins to fly as good as they should and I am kindof done tweaking. Flew my friends G500 (same setup) but on Mini-v and it was better. Now I know the SK540 can fly this good.. but get frustrated.

Same like me, I also still waiting for the "big" update for the SK540.
I`m not really happy with my Goblin with one SK on it.

So I think maybe should change to Brain.

Have you tried the suggestions in the sticky "the best tuning guide ever from the best thread ever!!"

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=478561

I was surprised at what a difference these suggestions made.

=] Pete, not that I could put a time-line on it, but would say when this hits the streets, the competition will be shaken!

I can't believe what SK have developed, months of it. have you ever had the skid pipes trapped in grass? the heli is ready to lift off but you can tell it's too smooth, and you then know why!

this is now how feels on tarmac! it is solid and different to any firmware we have ever seen, it's that apparent. but back to your question, the core testing is looking great, the peripherals will cause delays, it's a huge release and all parts need to be tried and tested,

perhaps you could put yourself forwards as a tester to SK?,

Sounds interesting, looking forward to that. So far after 50 flights of endless tweaking I've got a little buyers remorse wishing I'd have just got a vbar and been done with it. It flies fine, it's just a feel thing and probably all preference, not saying the sk isn't a good controller, just so far doesn't seem to be the one for me.

I used to love the vbar. But now am a total Skookum guy. When the gyro is tuned properly, nothing else comes close. And trust me when I say, I have had quite a few different gyros.

I get email updates from one of the brilliant beta testers. I am simply blown away at what is heading our way.

Hey guys!

I know its been a while... Not just here in the Skookum forum but actually flyin a heli as well

But I hope I find time soon...
Thats why I checked the Skookum site and noticed the latest news was 6 month ago.
So I checked here of course

And what I read here makes me veeeery curious

All I want to know is it a new hardware product/upgrade (SK 720 pitch black ) or just a firmware update?
I really hope for latter!

thx
Soko

Just a new firmware with a lot of new GPS setting features as well. Still the same Black FBl controller.

Start reading on post #42 in this thread, and there are some teaser shots of some of the new gain settings and configs https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...36#post5864936

thx xrayted, read the whole thread

Its very cool to support Graupner as "satellite" - I probably will switch to them cause of the awesome and easy telemetry they offer in their products.

And looking forward to the new GPS features as well! Since the time it drove in my heli it kinda makes me nervous instead of calming me down...

Their radios are amazing though. I've never had a transmitter that I got emotional about until I got my DS-16. It is just too cool and I have all the flexibility I ever wanted and features that you don't realize how useful they would be until you have them.

Maaaan, dont be an enabler!!

Is telemetry etc. as easy and well thought through as with the graupner?

I've always looked at the Jeti ds16 in awe, with regard to features etc.

If only it didn't look so bleedin' ugly

The DS-16 is probably the first radio I've ever saw that uses hall-effect sensors rather than cheap potentiometers on the gimbals. Guess which one is going to last?

Given that hall sensors are cheap and likely will have considerably less warranty issues, why the cheaper radios haven't moved away from potentiometers really does escape me...

Will the next update include the Graupner/SJ HoTT SUMD protocol? If so I will be a very happy SK-540 owner!

Another standard? Makes you wonder how much rom space SK is tying up on just supporting the kitchen sink for competing radio standards. Its likely going to sacrifice the addition of practical features in the longterm.

The industry is becoming a joke. We should just settle on getting bi-directional protocols supported, with full telemetry. From what I see the Graupner/SJ HoTT SUMD is a good starting point for others to follow.

It should be up to the radio manufacturers to provide a receiver that makes use of an accepted standard if they continue to use their own protocol, as 3rd party controllers are the future.
